More Information About Burke, VA
Burke is an unincorporated section of Fairfax County, Virginia, United States traditionally defined as the area served by the Burke post office (Zip Code 22015). Burke includes two census-designated places: The Burke CDP, population 41,055 in 2010[3] and the Burke Centre CDP, population 17,326.
Burke is named after Silas Burke (1796–1854), a 19th-century farmer, merchant, and local politician who built a house on a hill overlooking the valley of Pohick Creek in approximately 1824. The house still stands.[4] When the Orange and Alexandria Railroad was constructed in the late 1840s, the railroad station at the base of that hill was named “Burke’s Station” after Burke, who owned the land in the area and donated a right-of-way to the railroad company. The community that grew up around the railroad station acquired a post office branch in 1852. The railroad tracks located on the same historical line are owned by the Norfolk Southern Railway and form part of the Manassas line of the Virginia Railway Express commuter rail system, which has two stations (Rolling Road and Burke Centre) in the Burke area. The original Burke Station building can still be seen in the community, turned 90 degrees from its historical footprint.[5]

If your opener lacks a similar security reversing feature, it’s time to get a new opener. The Six-Inch Guideline. The picture eyes pointed out above must not be set up higher than 6 inches above the garage floor. If the eyes are installed greater, an individual or animal could get under the beam and not be spotted by the image eyes.
The wall push button for your garage door opener should be mounted a minimum of five feet above the flooring, out of the reach of children. Running under a closing door can be a lethal video game. Teach your children never ever to play with opening and closing the door. Do You Know Where Your Remote Controls Are? For the reasons just discussed, keep the remote controls for your openers where children can not have fun with them.
For security reasons, make certain to keep your push-button controls locked up. If you park a car outside your garage, make certain to lock your cars and truck so that possible robbers can not access your push-button control and gain easy access to your garage. Rolling Codes. Some burglars have the ability to “record” your transmitter’s signal.
However, if your transmitter (the push-button control) has rolling code innovation, the code changes after every use. This renders the thieves’ controls ineffective. Contact your garage door opener producer or your regional garage door dealer to learn more. SCREENING AND MAINTAINING THE GARAGE DOOR OPENERConsult the owner’s handbook for additional suggested upkeep for your design of door opener.
Reversal TestMake sure your opener has a reversing feature. If a reversing feature is not present, the opener must be changed. Garage door openers manufactured after January 1, 1993, are required by federal law to have advanced security functions that adhere to the most recent UL (Underwriters Laboratories) 325 requirements. Contact your producer or installer for extra info.
Evaluate the reversing feature every month. Initially, test the balance of the door. If the door is correctly stabilized, then continue. 2. With the door completely open, position a 1-1/2″ thick piece of wood (a 2″ X 4″ laid flat) on the flooring in the center of the door. 3.
The door needs to reverse when it strikes the blockage. (Note that the bottom part of “one-piece doors” must be rigid so that the door will not close, however will reverse when it contacts the obstruction.) 4. If the door does not reverse, have it fixed or replaced. Have a certified specialist change, repair, or replace the opener or door.
If the door does not reverse easily, the force setting may be extreme and need adjusting. See your owner’s handbook for information on how to make the adjustment. Extra Security DevicesMany garage door openers can be geared up with additional safety gadgets, such as photo eyes or edge sensors, to protect versus entrapment.
Make sure the extra safety devices are appropriately set up and changed (see owner’s manual). TESTING AND KEEPING THE GARAGE DOORPerform routine maintenance steps once a month. Review your owner’s handbook for the garage door. If you do not have a handbook, search for the design number on the back of the door, or examine the lock manage, hinges, or other hardware for the maker’s name and request a handbook from the producer.
If you think issues, have a qualified individual make repairs. Garage door springs, cables, brackets, and other hardware connected to the springs are under very high tension and, if managed incorrectly, can cause major injury. Just a certified expert or a mechanically skilled person should change them, but only by thoroughly following the maker’s instructions.
Do not try to fix or change torsion springs yourself. A restraining cable television or other device ought to be set up on the extension spring (the spring along the side of the door) to help contain the spring if it breaks. Never ever eliminate, adjust, or loosen up the screws on the bottom brackets of the door.
Regularly oil the moving parts of the door. However, do not lubricate plastic idler bearings. Seek advice from the door owner’s handbook for the maker’s suggestion. Door BalancePeriodically evaluate the balance of your door. Start with the door closed. If you have a garage door opener, utilize the release system so you can run the door by hand when doing this test.
It needs to remain open around 3 or 4 feet above the flooring. If it does not, it is out of adjustment. Have it changed by a competent service individual.
