A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to requiring an occupational license to practice magnetic |
|
resonance imaging physics. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Section 602.002, Occupations Code, is amended by |
|
amending Subdivisions (5-a) and (12) and adding Subdivision (5-b) |
|
to read as follows: |
|
(5-a) "Magnetic resonance imaging physics" means the |
|
branch of medical physics that deals with radiofrequency radiation |
|
and the use of equipment associated with the production and use of |
|
radiofrequency radiation. |
|
(5-b) "Medical board" means the Texas Medical Board. |
|
(12) "Radiological physics" means the branch of |
|
medical physics that includes: |
|
(A) diagnostic radiological physics; |
|
(B) magnetic resonance imaging physics; |
|
(C) medical health physics; |
|
(D) [(C)] medical nuclear physics; and |
|
(E) [(D)] therapeutic radiological physics. |
|
SECTION 2. Section 602.201(b), Occupations Code, is amended |
|
to read as follows: |
|
(b) A medical physicist may not practice the following |
|
specialties unless the person holds a license for that specialty: |
|
(1) diagnostic radiological physics; |
|
(2) magnetic resonance imaging physics; |
|
(3) medical health physics; |
|
(4) [(3)] medical nuclear physics; or |
|
(5) [(4)] therapeutic radiological physics. |
|
SECTION 3. As soon as practicable after the effective date |
|
of this Act, the Texas Medical Board shall adopt rules necessary to |
|
implement the changes in law made by this Act to Chapter 602, |
|
Occupations Code. |
|
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
