According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.6 square miles (9.3 km2), of which 3.6 square miles (9.3 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2) (1.65%) is water.

As of the census of 2000, there were 18,213 people, 8,361 households, and 5,275 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 5,096.5 people per square mile (1,969.8/km2). There were 9,289 housing units at an average density of 2,599.3/sq mi (1,004.6/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 94.46% White, 1.63% African American, 0.32% Native American, 0.88% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.21% from other races, and 1.49% from two or more races.
