I have the distinct pleasure of having on the line the owner of Xodus Ventures located in the North Fork Valley in Colorado, Kalvin Evans. I met Kalvin a few weeks ago at a TEDx Wilmington event in Wilmington, Delaware. I was so impressed by his talk, I reached out and he agreed to join us today on the podcast. Let me tell you a little bit about Kalvin and you will see why I reached out…

Kalvin is the owner of Xodus Ventures, LLC. He has a passion for fitness, wellness, adventure, and changing people’s lives! Since 1998, he has been involved in fitness from leading Boot Camp workouts, Reebok Cycling Instruction and Personal Training, to Kettle Bell Training. He has also coordinated adventure trips for kids and adults since the year 2000, ranging from rock-climbing and kayaking to hiking and mountain biking!

After spending nearly 3 years at North Bay, an outdoor environmental adventure camp near Baltimore Maryland, Kalvin Evans and family relocated to Colorado to launch their fitness/adventure/survival consulting business - helping clients to get healthy, in shape, and living life as an adventure.

His goal is to create a new wave in fitness, survival, and adventure training using non-traditional forms of training. In 2011, he was selected to compete on the reality television program, “One Man Army: Fear Is Not An Option”which aired on the Discovery Channel – and I was a viewer of that program as well! Currently, he is training and running an exercise Bootcamp in Paonia, Colorado before launching a national campaign. He wants to offer retreats for individuals who are serious about reaching their health/fitness goals, offer adventure trips, and work with young people in helping them reach their potential.

Now, other than that brief bio, I always start with this question – tell us, “Who is Kalvin Evans?”

Now, your background was the military, correct?  How many years did you serve?  And I know you started you fitness career in Baltimore, Maryland – where I happen to be living at the moment…why would you give up the thriving metropolis of Baltimore and “run for the hills” of beautiful Colorado to raise a family and start your business?

You grew up in Texas…is that where you entered the Air Force? Was the military  where you started to get into Fitness? 

You also attended survival school. Tell us about that time your life and military career. How did that shape you for today.

I know I struggled when I left the military – just kind of wandering for several years…Is that what happened to you as well?

Your Faith has a lot to do with your business, correct?  Tell us about how you incorporate your Faith into your business activities and outreaches?

Now, it is not everyday I get interview a bonfide TV celebrity, so to speak, tell us about the process you went through to get your shot on the Discovery Channel program.

I remember seeing you…and I apologize for not remembering…but what happened?  How did you finish?  If I remember correctly, there were some amazing obstacle courses they had assembled, correct?

Lets shift gears a bit and talk about your business, Xodus Adventures.  Nice name!  What inspired you to choose that name?

There are two worlds--God's Creation and the present world system. God loves His creation and has a restoration plan for it. But the world's system organized under the direct influence of the devil is in direct opposition to God. Horace E. Allen reveals the true nature of the world we should not love.

Folks, Social and political correctness have replaced God's standard of righteousness. The result is a world system that is in constant moral, social, and ethical decline. This declining moral system -  is constantly being redesigned by man's imagination in order to accommodate his unrestrained and sinful desires. And we can see that being displayed today - everyday…What was once immoral - is now accepted “as normal!”

Christians who are determined to maintain biblical standards of morality are put on the defensive -  and labeled as being “intolerant.”

Understanding the true nature of the world God created - and this world's system - will help us to make the right choices to live God's way. Amen!

There is a clear line between what is godly and what is ungodly. Likewise, there should be a difference between the standards of believers and those of nonbelievers. In His book, “The World to Love and Not to Love”  Dr. Allen is able to give readers clarity about the dividing line - between the secular and spiritual worlds.

Dr. Horace Allen is licensed in New York State as a professional marriage and family therapist with a B.S. degree in psychology from New York Institute of Technology; M.S. degree in counseling from St. John’s University of Queens, and a D. Min from Andersonville Baptist Seminary.

He served as senior pastor at the East End Baptist Church, Brooklyn, New York for thirty-four years. AMEN! Glory to God!  Dr. Allen is now semi-retired and living in Florida, where he conducts seminars, speaks at conferences and maintains his therapy practice through video and telephone sessions. He and his wife of fifty- two years have two children and two grandchildren.

I have to ask you, Dr. Allen…how long did it take you to write this book?

How did you decide on the topic of the Two World System?

I was ready to jump out of my seat when I read, in just the first chapter, the subject line that reads:  God Loved the Social Order He Designed; We Should Not Love What it Has Become!  AMEN!  When I read that, my Sprit came alive on the inside of me!  You got me hooked right there to go through your book…because I’ve been trying for years, in preaching and teaching to discuss that issue…but never in the light of “God created the social order and man is trying to re-create it” – How did you come to see that?

Now, explain to our listeners how you explained “God created man in His image and likeness.”  The way you explain this opens up so much understanding…at least in my mind and spirit…

You explain in you book, how Satan and his angels were cast down to earth…and you go on to explain that they are HERE, with us, and operating in this world’s system of government.  I believe we can see the effects of their influence all around us as well. Explain to our listeners about the “Two Systems Under Which ALL People Live.”

One section in your book really caught my attention. Can you explain to our listeners what you mean by “Man is comfortable living in Spiritual Darkness?”

Jesus taught that He did not come to condemn the world because it was condemned already…when did the world become condemned?

Can you explain how, in your words, the “world sets its own standards of righteousness?”

On TV almost every night now, we see so called protestors, actually they are just rioters, tearing down statues, getting in the face of the police and anyone that disagrees with anything they have to say…This goes hand in hand with the section in your book that says, “”The world estranged from God seeks to silence anyone who disagrees with them.”

Now, that statement, I take it, that you wrote this section of the book prior to any of the recent events on television…correct?  So, how do Christians counter the effects of these attempts to silence us?

I love the way you covered Capital Punishment in your book…can you explain why you referenced as a way to uphold man’s nobility?

What drives the arguments for and against Capital Punishment?

Can you give us some examples of Christian Living and Worldly Living?

How can Christians today turn the tide that has swept this nation for the last few generations, turning this once Godly nation into a nation of lawlessness and immorality?

Have you ever thought about writing your own book?  If you are a pastor or minister, it could help open doors for you to be able to express your professionalism in a way just talking about sometimes does not happen. It gives you an opportunity to sow into the life of someone you may never meet. Books in ministry allows you to expound upon issues that you can only give bullet points on during a sermon in front of an audience.

As a business leader, it allows you to establish your brand. It allows you to express that auroa of professionalism in the eyes of your client.

BUT BROTHER BOB – book publishing is too expensive….book publishing is something only professionally trained authors can do; I need a literary agent to do or “I don’t have the time to do.”

You talk about the tragedy of hitting your friend on July 5th 1995. I want you to tell us what your life was all about up to that point…were you a “Christian” at that time?  What were the circumstances that brought you to the point of driving in a reckless manner that night?

What was the ramification of what happened?

Now, you mention that your mother gave you a Bible and that you were listening to a sermon from John 5 – do you remember who the preacher was?  What about that sermon and that Bible passage impacted you?

You began your speaking ministry as a result of that accident – how did you get started? 

And that grew from just local speaking to nationally as well, correct?

When did you start your family?

When did you start your actual ministry?

And you began planting churches in addition to speaking?

Tell me how you became involved in book publishing?

Traditional publishers tend not to take on “un-proven authors” because of the expense involved. They do not want to front all of these expenses unless they know there will be the possibility of a return on the back end.  How does Lucid Books work around that aspect of the business model?

You have put together a team that helps to ensure the success of your business model – tell us about your team…

Your target market, your “avatar” (as the popular phrase is today) – is it Christian’s only?

Ministers and preachers only or anyone?

Walk us through the process of someone who would contact your team about publishing a book with your company…

From start to finish…from “first contact” to “published book” – I know it varies from author to author – but what is the typical time frame?

When someone signs on with Lucid Books, is it for a set amount of books up front or is it “print on demand” – how does that work?

I know each person will be different, based upon their own individual needs and existing expertise – but I think it is a question everyone has on their mind at this point – and that is the budget a novice author should be looking at to hire your team to publish a book with your company…can you give us an estimate of what a novice author would be looking at? 

And depending on what services are needed, that amount could go up or down a bit?

Do you handle any of the post production aspect – the marketing angle with book stores, book signings and things like that?

If a person already has a book published, and I’ll just say it (only because everyone is familiar with it) using Amazon…and most likely not doing well – is it possible to use your company to bring some life into their book and republish it?

There are Jewish communities in India as well, correct?  How does the influence of Hinduism – or even Islam, affect these Jewish communities?

You reference an article by Tudor Parfitt in the Journal of Modern Jewish Studies, in which he said, “what a group thinks about itself is at least as important as what outsiders think about it.”  Can you explain what he means by that and how it applies to your studies in this area?

You talk about Madagascar as well. Tell us what surprised you about those claiming Jewish ties in Madagascar.

How do other countries, especially in the west, receive and perceive the development of these “Jewish communities?”  How do these communities define their “Jewishness” in these nations?

What, if any, are the points of contention among these developing – or established – Jewish communities and the areas surrounding them? 

In the west, among the western nations, most consider themselves to be Christian in their heritage. How does this affect the development of these Jewish communities?

To what extent does the exposure to Christianity – or Islam – for that matter, effect these communities? Especially here in the western world?

In the conclusion of your book, you said, “not all Old Testament oriented movements may not necessarily lead toward Jewish normativity.”  What did you mean by that?

I guess the first question I have for you, is why did you write this book?  What was the motivation behind it?

You have the book structured to look at three particular areas. One section of the book is devoted to the study of developing or established Jewish communities in Ghana, another in  Cameroon and then, what you call, “Children of Ephraim” in India. Tell us about the studies you did in each of these regions.

You talk about the “Judaizing movements” in the developing world.  That’s a good thing, correct?  What points are you trying to make concerning the spread of the Judaizing movement?

You talk about the symbolic or ideological impetus behind these movements. Can you explain what you mean by that?

In your book, you discuss the importance of the Oral History and the heritage narratives. Aren’t these referring to the same thing?  What do they have in common?  How are they different?

How does each community, wherever they are located, define what “Jewishness” means to them?

From what I have read, do some of these communities, especially in Africa, consider themselves to be part of the “ten lost tribes” of Israel?

It must be very difficult for them to try and live their Faith in these communities, correct?  Can you expound on that?

He created man in His image is He who Created Jesus in His image as well…

He who now lives inside of every believer, has Created US in the Image of Jesus – who is in the Image of His Father, OUR Father – The Most High God!

Holly T. Ashley is a published author, accomplished Christian speaker and equips both the sinners and the saints with Christian Domestic Violence resources and teaching her court-approved Christian Domestic Violence curriculum to those mandated by the courts, DHS, DCS, CPS and other referring agencies.

Holly also consults churches and ministries in setting up Biblical counseling/resource centers and Domestic Violence/Legal-lay counselor programs at their ministry and church locations.

Holly has been involved as a grass-roots advocate in the field of abuse for thirty years. Her initial outline that was presented to the Arizona Governor’s office before there was ever even a law against abuse, serves as much of the foundation that you see to day in the domestic violence field. Now, this program is for BOTH, victims and offenders, correct?  How does that work?

Your ultimate goal is to have an R3 program and mentor in every state, city and ultimately every church, correct?  How is that progressing?

What, looking back now…what led up to you – someone who, on the outside, appeared to “have it all together” – what led you into being caught in the web of domestic violence and everything that you went through, the drugs, the dancing and all of that… - you were the “success” model on the outside, at least in the beginning..?

You say the “Church” is the one that needs to make a difference in domestic violence…how can the Church itself, as you say, “take up the cross” for this epidemic?

You advocate for “the church” to be the ones who discipline domestic violence offenders… you are talking here about “church discipline” – not legal, correct?  What do you mean by that?

Tell us the statistics…and this is going to surprise many of our listeners…about Violence against MEN – it’s not always against women…correct?

You offer 2 day mini-seminars in addition to 1 day workshops – what will they learn?

 The third habit of a successful marriage, you say, is Respect and Love. Isn’t that two things?  How can we show our spouse more respect and more love – what are some ways you recommend doing this?

Lastly, the fourth habit of a successful marriage is Practice your promise…I love this one…practicing what you promised you would do for your spouse on your wedding day.  I think that is a long forgotten item in marriage…

How did you come to the point of writing this type of book?  It is not your “typical” Christian book.

 In the very beginning of the book, you state the 24 documents  do not represent all that the Church should believe but rather 24 battle lines on which the enemy is attacking the Church… What do you mean by that?

There is no doubt that the “Church” has lost its base of morality and cultural values in the last 50-75 years.  What do you believe in the main reason that the church and church leadership has left the historic teaching of the Bible and turned so liberal.

In my opinion, and from what I’ve read in your book, your opinion as well, that the Inerrancy of the Bible has to be the number one precept at the basis of “Christianity.”  Is that correct?  How do you respond to those who say the Bible was something written by writers for a different time and that “we” (meaning society) have “progressed” beyond that?

In your book, you indicate you are optimistic that the Christian church is going to “merge” under a new sense of a “Global Theological Unity.” Can you explain what you mean from that and why you are so optimistic it will happen?

Are you Going to Heaven or Hell?  It’s a pretty straight forward type of question…but one that many Christians have a hard time engaging in a forthright discussion about. Mainly, because they are not “comfortable” in their own salvation…let alone being able to defend it from questions others may have…

Roger Lambert has written a book called, “7 Reasons People Miss Out on Heaven” and this book will give the answers to these questions…questions many Christians struggle with themselves…in addition to the vast majority of people out there that ARE missing out on going to Heaven because they do not believe…

Is all forms of Worship acceptable to God?   Why is that?

In your book, as I mentioned in my opening remarks, the question, “Why was hell created?”  Hell is a real place, correct?  I often ask my guest…”How can we know for sure there IS a hell?  How do you respond to that?

Can you explain “Why were the borders of hell were expanded?”  Can you expound on that?

There is a very clear danger in judging others, correct?  Well then, how SHOULD we handle hypocrites in Church?

Some people believe that “God is a good God and He will not let anyone go to hell…He will just have different “levels” of Heaven for each person…”  I don’t subscribe to that – and I believe you do not either…so answer the question that comes up – “Does everyone go to Heaven?”

Why do some people receive miracles and others do not?

If Jesus paid the price for all sins for all time (past, present and future), why can’t we just live like we want if we have asked Him to forgive us?

Why does the pastor keep talking about tithes all of the time?

But surely God knows I can’t afford 10% - the other people can pay it, but God ‘knows my heart.’

In your opinion, what do feel is the most misunderstood concepts in church today…especially the “modern church?”

Is all forms of Worship acceptable to God?   Why is that?

In your book, as I mentioned in my opening remarks, the question, “Why was hell created?”  Hell is a real place, correct?  I often ask my guest…”How can we know for sure there IS a hell?  How do you respond to that?

Can you explain “Why were the borders of hell were expanded?”  Can you expound on that?

There is a very clear danger in judging others, correct?  Well then, how SHOULD we handle hypocrites in Church?

Before you take that next sip of coffee – I want you to listen to me for just a moment…my guest today is going to tell you something about your coffee addiction, in addition to many other things…Glory to God…

Back in 2001, my guest, Michael Tamez, weighed 250 pounds, had dangerous high blood pressure, sleep apnea and host of other ailments. I fell asleep while driving and nearly died in a car accident. That event “woke him up” – literally.  Prior to that fateful day, he consumed fast food three times per day and drank at least 2 liters of sugared soda.

Over the last 15 years, he has shed almost 100 pounds, without taking any medication, no surgeries or using that four letter word – DIET…amen!  He is on a mission to transform and upgrade the outdated healthcare system by positively impacting the obesity epidemic in our society…

Right off the bat, Michael…tell us about your article “3 Reasons Why You Might Have a Morning Coffee Addiction” – I seen that on your website and when I read it – well, it sounded like you were talking about me in the article…amen…

By the way…I LOVE STRONG COFFEE…you talked about Cuban Coffee…I mix my CUBAN COFEE with some coffee from Louisiana that has Chickory Nuts in it…just to give it a little “kick.”  The bad part is…and this is the absolute truth – and  maybe you can address this – I can drink an entire pot of that coffee – which is about 6 cups for my coffee cup – and literally go take a nap and fall fast asleep.  I don’t get it…but I’ve done that on many occasions.  Can you address that…

Now, I want to shift gears a bit and talk about PERMANENT WEIGHTLOSS today. I know I have lost about 400 pounds over the years…problem is – I’ve found them again and again. I can’t seem to get off the “lose 5 and gain 10” cycle. Does that sound familiar to you from your clients?

Tell us about your transformation and how it has impacted your life…

What you are saying…does that mean we all have to become vegetarians?

OK…I like to eat. I admit that…I’ve made a life style change lately where I am eating mostly salads and greens, and I break it up about every four or five days with a small portion of meat.  I’ve actually become accustomed to this and the salad bowl does not make me gag anymore…I was the type that could go into a steak restaurant and order the 32 oz steak with all the trimmings and give back an empty plate…I admit that.

How do you counsel people like me?  Do you just focus on portion control?

What about exercise?  I’ve got – basically from the waist down – problems…that all stemmed from an accident I was in…but added weight gain has compounded the issues…I can walk about a mile now (two years ago it was ¼ mile)…but people  do have physical issues – how do you encourage and counsel them?

You talk about the “common cause” of weight gain…what do you mean by that?

Many people are emotional eaters, correct?  I know I have classified myself in that category…along with millions of Americans…we eat when we are happy; we eat when we are sad; we eat when we are mad and we eat just because the clock says it’s time to eat.  How do you help people break those habits?

You talk about have a BIG END GOAL…but sometimes that seems so far away… I mean – you MUST HAVE felt that way, too.  100 pounds! 

Now, you offer not only coaching….but do you offer “coaching for coaches” – maybe one of our listeners would like to be a Health Coach like you…do you offer training in that area?

How she and her husband met missionaries who were impressed by the ministry work they were doing. They were not planning on coming to America…but after many days of prayer – they agreed to do so.  It meant they were going to lose their jobs, their ability to support their extended family…but they did so anyhow.

They discovered that 3 missionaries in 1901, left Marshal Town, Iowa…they left everything to take the Gospel to Kenya…the exact town they were in. Now, these missionaries invited them BACK to Marshal Town, Iowa and complete the circle!  Exactly 100 years later!

Amen…Now, your new book, GOD’s PRESENCE – THE MISSING SOMETHIING …Tell us about this book and why did you wrote this book at this time?

Wrote from the burden of her heart right here in America.  Many people around the work look to America for Spiritual leadership.

But America has so much spiritual darkness – that is what brought to write the book…to remind the Christians that Satan in a liar.

To encourage them to get back under the umbrella of God’s Presence.

To remind Christians there is nothing good outside of God’s presence.

Get back to the cornerstones of God’s Presence

Prayer is the most convenient way for us to communicate with Him.

In your book, one comment that was left on your website said, “She seeks to paint for us the importance of our differences…”  How are you doing this with your book?

Another person wrote a comment, “On one hand, the world rallies for feminism and for women to dominate over men. On the other, it rallies for submissive women who should never speak up. This is not the role of a woman. The Power of a Woman demonstrates the magnitude of the role of women and equips women to use their talents to glorify God in the manner in which God intended.”  How do you respond to that?

You state, “We are God’s choice for the day and time such as this…” Are you talking about a calling into ministry or just someone willing to be used by God wherever they are at?

How does God equip us for service…and for that matter – how can someone know if they are being called by God into service?

In your book, you talk about “Living in the light of Eternity.”  What do you mean by that?

There are two worlds--God's Creation and the present world system. God loves His creation and has a restoration plan for it. But the world's system organized under the direct influence of the devil is in direct opposition to God. Horace E. Allen reveals the true nature of the world we should not love.

Folks, Social and political correctness have replaced God's standard of righteousness. The result is a world system that is in constant moral, social, and ethical decline. First, congratulations on this great book!  “The World to Love and Not To Love!”

I have to ask you, Dr. Allen…how long did it take you to write this book?

How did you decide on the topic of the Two World System?

I was ready to jump out of my seat when I read, in just the first chapter, the subject line that reads:  God Loved the Social Order He Designed; We Should Not Love What it Has Become!  AMEN!  When I read that, my Sprit came alive on the inside of me!  You got me hooked right there to go through your book…because I’ve been trying for years, in preaching and teaching to discuss that issue…but never in the light of “God created the social order and man is trying to re-create it” – How did you come to see that?

Now, explain to our listeners how you explained “God created man in His image and likeness.”  The way you explain this opens up so much understanding…at least in my mind and spirit…

You explain in you book, how Satan and his angels were cast down to earth…and you go on to explain that they are HERE, with us, and operating in this world’s system of government.  I believe we can see the effects of their influence all around us as well. Explain to our listeners about the “Two Systems Under Which ALL People Live.”

 One section in your book really caught my attention. Can you explain to our listeners what you mean by “Man is comfortable living in Spiritual Darkness?”

Jesus taught that He did not come to condemn the world because it was condemned already…when did the world become condemned?

Can you explain how, in your words, the “world sets its own standards of righteousness?”

On TV almost every night now, we see so called protestors, actually they are just rioters, tearing down statues, getting in the face of the police and anyone that disagrees with anything they have to say…This goes hand in hand with the section in your book that says, “”The world estranged from God seeks to silence anyone who disagrees with them.”

 Now, that statement, I take it, that you wrote this section of the book prior to any of the recent events on television…correct?  So, how do Christians counter the effects of these attempts to silence us?

I love the way you covered Capital Punishment in your book…can you explain why you referenced as a way to uphold man’s nobility?

What drives the arguments for and against Capital Punishment?

Can you give us some examples of Christian Living and Worldly Living?

How can Christians today turn the tide that has swept this nation for the last few generations, turning this once Godly nation into a nation of lawlessness and immorality?
