We’re winding up the Advent season with this week’s show, which will be the last show for 2017. We’re going to take a break for Christmas and New Years, and then we’ll be back in 2018 with Season 5 of the Catholic Playlist sharing more of the best and newest contemporary Christian music from Catholic artists. Lots of great new music coming in 2018, but until then let’s enjoy some Advent and Christmas music, including songs from Matt Maher, Josh Blakesley, Jaime Thietten, The Vigil Project, and leading off is a soon to be released single from Aly Aleigha - “Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silent”

Welcome to the last Catholic Playlist Worship show of 2017! We’ve reached the fourth Sunday in Advent, which means that Christmas and birth of Christ is very near. In fact, the 4th week of Advent this year is only 1 day - Christmas Eve. Certainly unusual, but that doesn’t stop us from putting together another playlist of great music, music you’ve been hearing over the last several weeks. The end of 2017 is nearly in sight and the end of the liturgical year is even closer, as Advent is a mere 5 weeks away. We’ll have playlists full of Advent music during that season, but until then we’ll continue to enjoy the same great music we always do. We go back a few years to Marie Miller’s song 6′2″, which has a strong Theology of Body theme to it, and right up to the present with a new track from Rita West’s debut EP Chosen. Last week’s show was a bonanza of just released or never played before music on the show. We would’ve had almost all new music last week if we hadn’t forgot a couple tracks in the selection process. Therefore my oversight leads to 3 new selections in this week’s episode, including a beautiful ballad by Rebecca Roubion from back in 2014.

The brand new music comes from Cody Roth with a single called “Jesus I Trust in You”, and Alob releases a full length album titled “No Match for Love” and you’ll hear the title track lead off the last segment of the show. This music is surrounded by many of your favorite performers including Connor Flanagan, Ricky Vazquez, Greg&Lizzy, Chris Bray, Mathias Michael and more.

The good news about not producing a new show for a few weeks is that this show is stuffed full of new music released during this time. As I mentioned last week, Matt Maher’s new album “Echoes’ is out and it’s crazy good as you might expect. Mikey Needleman and John Finch also have new albums, and Shaun Garrison released a new single too.

But my favorite new release comes from Pontifex, who’s album “Letters from the Wasteland, Vol 1″ is a tour de force of Catholic hip hop. Fans of this genre of music need to get this music in their ears, and if you have young people in your life give them this music. It may reach them in a way that no other kind of music can. I picked “New Day” to share in the playlist because it has the best sound for Catholic radio, a place where hip hop/rap is never heard. But the Catholic Playlist Show makes it happen! Enjoy!

The lineup features opening artists Kyle Sinkule, Mike Mangione & The Union, Paul J Kim and PJ Anderson followed by Matt Maher, this year’s headliner. We play several selections from each performer, with an extended set of songs from Matt which happens to include music from his newest album, Echoes.

We’re going a little bit folk with episode #175 of the Catholic Playlist this week, headlined by The Mosleys, our new featured artist. We chose “Brighter Days” from their first full length album “Ordinary Time” for their debut, which can be heard leading off the second segment of the show. We followed that up with “Help Me Mary” from Daniel Rolf and “Good Shepherd” from Brother Isaiah for a distinctly folk music vibe.

John Finch just released a new full length album titled “Wildfire”, and we picked the title track to debut in the playlist. E.P.I.C. the Band (”Proclaim”) and Pasquale Talarico (”All Things New”) each debut new singles, and we just discovered “Surrounded by Your Love”, a single by Greg&Lizzy released last year for Catholic Heart Workcamp.
