I want to thank you all so much for tuning in every week and helping me affirm without a doubt that I am better off than I was a year ago. This isn’t to suggest that I have everything figured out, because I certainly don’t. Or to say I am better off because I’ve achieved every single one of my goals, because I haven’t. But, when I look back on this year, I know I have made progress. Everyday was not the best day ever, but everyday I intentionally tried to move forward. Thanks to the incredible individuals and communities, friends and my wonderful family who have invested in me and rallied around me, I can honestly say I am so much better off today than I was on January 3, 2017.

I encourage you to look back and reflect on how far you’ve come. Look at the goals you set and examine the ones you achieved and the ones you didn’t. Look to see in which areas of your life you place the most value and set goals there, because you’ve already decided what matters most to you. Set the goals you need to achieve because they will really help you progress in the life you want; don’t set the ones you think look the best to others, because you won’t succeed in a life you don’t really want.

Here’s to hoping your reflection on 2017 helps you appreciate the growth you’ve made, and helps you make intentional steps forward to make 2018 that much better.

We are in week 10 of trying to get The Rock, so if you want him to be a guest on KMF as badly as I do, then let’s get to work. Just start tagging him on social media and telling him that he has to be a guest; tell him how much you want to hear his story. We have ten weeks left. We got this.

From starter on the Georgia Southern basketball team, to marketing student of the year, to taking the fashion merchandising world by storm, Jessica Geiger is living proof of what the athlete’s mind is capable of. Jessica utilized every bit of what she learned as an athlete and applied it to her life beyond basketball, noting that “sports shape you and teach you so much about real life.”

Though her pro journey is far from over, Alexa knows the fragility of the career she is in, recognizing that an injury could end her time on the field at any moment. Because of this, Alexa ensures that her athletic legacy will live on long after she is gone, as she has entrepreneurial aspirations to help athletes in need.

It was an honor to speak with her about her journey and I hope you enjoy my interview with Alexa Newfield.

These skill she honed as a collegiate athlete brought her to the realization that she could use her love of soccer as well as her authentic leadership skills to help young women walk through their own athletic journeys and beyond. Sara sprinted into her calling to become a soccer coach and math teacher, understanding fully that you only run into a problem when you transition if you decide to stay unhappy. Sara knew that the end of her athletic career did not signify the end of her love affair with soccer. In fact, it meant the direct opposite.

As a member of a co-state championship high school winning team and today as the head Varsity coach of a state championship winning team, you better believe Sara isn’t anywhere near done yet. It was a privilege to have the chance to share her story and I hope you all enjoy my interview with Sara Geiger Schmitt.

“What is your goal worth to you?” Is it worth sleepless nights grinding away, not knowing when your ultimate goal will be achieved? Is it worth missing out on the next new Netflix original series? Is it worth cancelling a night out with your friends so you can have a few extra hours to complete that critical project you’ve been working on? For former DIII football player and successful standup comedian Joel Byars, his passion to educate and entertain through comedy was worth all of this and so much more. Using the determination he developed as an athlete and the resiliency instilled within him from his mom, Joel refused to give up in his pursuit to change the world through comedy. Though he is a successful entrepreneur today, his journey here was not an overnight success. It took him years of work and patience to get him to where he is, but he will be the first to tell you “it was all worth it, because [he] knew what it was for.”

MARCH 14, 2018 could quite possibly be one of the biggest days in Keep Moving Forward history. As of today, we are 16 weeks out from THE big day. When episode 100 of this podcast will be published. 100 weeks of continuing to move forward will hit the airways, so I started thinking about how to best capture this moment in KMF history.

When episode 100 of Keep Moving Forward is released, I have a big plan in the works. My desire is that episode 100 of the Keep Moving Forward podcast will feature an interview with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. This idea came to life when I was speaking with a mentor of mine a few weeks ago. He suggested an interesting tactic in securing guests, and namely, “big name” guests. He had me consider who the “big get” would be for my podcast. Who is someone I would love to speak to more than anyone else. My initial response was Rudy Ruettiger, a man who’s been my biggest role model since I was 10-years old, but whom I’ve already had the privilege to interview for episode 9. After thinking about it for a few days, though, I realized the perfect guest for my show is Dwayne Johnson: a former professional football player, sidelined by injury, and having to learn how to transition in so many facets of life, all the while using his athletic background as jumping off platform. Speaking to him about how he made it through each of these transitions, what his entire athletic career was and is like, how he is so driven to succeed in everything he does…I can think of no one better.

I began my pursuit of the Rock three and a half weeks ago, in the aftermath of the release of the 80th episode of KMF.I figured that 20 full weeks would give me enough time to gain some traction and to someone establish a connection with the man, the myth, and the legend who is The Rock. Like has been customary with my other guests, though, I could have kept my pursuit under wraps. Not letting anyone in on this journey with me until it became a sure thing, if it ever did. But, I did not do what I normally do. Instead, I went public with my intentional chase for three reasons:

1. Dwayne Johnson is incredibly active on social media and, to date, I have found no other way to get in contact with him. So, every single day, I write a post, comment on something he’s done, try to incite conversation with him or whomever runs his social media in some manner. I always tag either Keep Moving Forward or myself, depending upon what account seems most relevant to post from. I get an alert in my calendar when it’s time to do my Rock post for the day, and I just throw something out there. Additionally, I use his platforms to stay relevant with all the news in his world. Any movie that’s coming out, any event he’s done, any charity he’s supported. Most recently, his Under Armour line, The Rock Project, dropped. Of course, I bought a work out tank top from his line, because it’s awesome and I am so excited to work out in it, but also because I want to support his projects and, obviously, take some pictures in it help further develop my more fully my public pursuit of him (you’ll see those pop up in the next few days, for sure).

2. I need your help, my tribe dedicated to the pursuit of moving ever forward. I actually want to reach The Rock and my best bet seems to be through sharing and tagging social media. I want engagement from all sides. Another piece of advice I received was to find the first degree in the six degrees of separation between me and The Rock. There has to be someone who knows something about him, I just have to establish a connection with that first degree and press onward until I find the next one. There is probably a connection I never thought to make before, so in putting my pursuit out there, someone has to know something.

3. I want you all to hold me accountable in this daily pursuit. Making me prove that I am, in fact, doing all that I can to make this interview a reality. Accountability is the only thing that will make this work. It’s easy to tell myself I will do something, and if I get distracted and off task then I am the only one who knows. But with this, I want it to be seen and heard that this pursuit is real. I am actively doing something every day to establish a connection with The Rock...and I want you guys to keep me honest in that. So just check out my progress at the end of each week in my blog post and let me know if you think I can be doing something better.

Maybe you think this is ridiculous and that it will never happen. Or worse, that this is simply some stunt to increase web traffic and get more podcast downloads. Perhaps you think that maybe this could actually happen, but you’re thinking that goals must be tangible, measurable, and realistic. All these questions are valid. But, I know this could happen, I would never do anything as empty as a simple publicity stunt, and I can assure you my thought out plan is all parts tangible, measurable, and realistic:

Tangible: I have 20 weeks to secure an interview with The Rock. It’s within reach. I have a deadline.

Measurable: Securing an interview with The Rock will solidify one heck of a 100th episode. If my journey there is unsuccessful, then I have this 20-week period (now down to 16 weeks) to go all out and determine whether or not I did everything in my power to conduct this interview.

Realistic: I’ve interviewed people on my podcast whom I’ve looked up to my entire life. From Rudy Ruettiger to Evander Holyfield…never in my wildest dreams did I think I would ever be able to have conversations with these incredible human beings. But I have. So, the way I see it, I have a chance to get this interview if I work hard enough for it. Because I think we all know at this point that giving up is for rookies.

You can follow along with my pursuit of The Rock on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

If you guys enjoy Keep Moving Forward and want to tell me so, I would love for you to leave me a review on iTunes. And if you really like my show and would like for me to give you a shout out at the beginning of my next episode, you can donate as little as $1 to my podcast and become a loyal patron at Patreon.

“Perhaps at the end of the day, it wasn’t about the Olympics...God didn’t give me what I really wanted, but He gave me what I really needed.” Ken Eaton qualified for the 1980 Summer Olympics only to have his dream stripped away when the United States boycotted the Games. The idea that you could work so hard in pursuit of that one goal, nearly achieving it, and then having it taken away through circumstances so far beyond your control is unfathomable. Though he was “disgusted” that something like this could happen, Ken pushed forward through bitterness and anger and came out of his tumultuous journey on the other side as a wildly successful Masters athlete and entrepreneur. Recognizing the drive within himself that he is “an all in kind of guy”, through yet another set of circumstances beyond his control, Ken decided to push full force into his passion of photography and turn it into a lucrative business.

Ken’s numerous transitions and relentless determination in the face of adversity prove what the athletic mind is truly capable of...if we are only willing to let it pull us forward instead of setting us back. I am so grateful for the chance to share Ken’s story, and I hope that you enjoy my discussion with star athlete turned star entrepreneur, Ken Eaton.

Thank you to the newest patron of my podcast, Mr. Armando Raynol! Armando recently pledged to support Keep Moving Forward through my Patreon page, and I want to thank him so much for his help. Armando’s sincerity and timing could not be more perfect, actually, because I had the opportunity to meet him at the Momentum Conference that today’s episode is focused on.

“Change begins here.” One year ago last weekend I was an attendee of the inaugural Momentum Workshop Weekend, hosted by the original Disney-preneur, Lou Mongello. When I first started my podcast, it was actually Disney-themed, so I spent my days speaking with individuals who were inspired by Disney in some manner. This lead me to pursue an interview with a podcaster I’d admired for some time and whose insight on the parks and company seems to be unmatched. After speaking with Lou (interview available in episode 24), he told me about the Momentum 2016 conference and I knew I had to be a part of it. It was an incredible experience where I learned more than I ever dreamed I would and, most important to me, found a community of individuals whom I am honored to journey through entrepreneurship with.

For a recap on my experience from last year’s conference, you can take a listen to episode 27 of Keep Moving Forward.

In the 78th episode of Keep Moving Forward I interview the patriarch of racing’s favorite family, and the man whose life epitomizes the American dream, Mario Andretti.

“We are the perfect example of the American dream.” Arriving in America after escaping a tumultuous regime in Italy, the Andretti family was ready to make the most of their new life. For Mario, who was drawn to the race track from a young age, driving became his ultimate goal, and he would stop at nothing in order to make his racing dream come true.

With an immense amount of love and dedication to his craft, Mario became one of the greatest drivers in the world, and today, is the leader of one of the most successful racing families that ever reigned. Mario lead the charge to dominating not only the business of racing, but also in becoming a key player in so many entrepreneurial ventures beyond the track. What’s even more, and something that Mario considers a true blessing, is that his whole family fell in love with his sport, too. Each Andretti, though, did not simply follow in the footsteps of their fearless leader, instead, they each forged their own path both in and out of the sport...just as Mario would have them to do.

In tackling his dreams without abandon and letting his deep passion for the sport simply shine through him, Mario inspired not only the next generation of Andretti’s to go after their goals, but instilled within every admirer of his story, racing enthusiast or not, that you really can achieve anything you set your mind to, so long as you are “relentless in the pursuit of what you believe in.”

It was an absolute honor to have the chance to speak to this incredible athlete and entrepreneur, and I hope that you all enjoy my interview with the legendary Mario Andretti.

Thank you all for listening, I hope you enjoyed this episode. To learn more about Mario, visit his website, and follow him on Facebook and Twitter.

“Every shot counts.” Knowing that we so often fall short and that we can’t even hope to live up to our own sometimes impossible expectations, discouragement is an easy state to find ourselves in. But in recognizing this reality of being let down by ourselves and others, why not place our faith in something that will never discourage us, never lead us astray, and never let us down? Ryan Grant’s own journey through athletics and beyond is reflective of such faith. His trust in God’s plan for his life lead Ryan to the decision to walk away from the sport of golf at a rather surprising time, but Ryan was so resolute in his faith, that he felt complete peace in this chapter of his life ending and his moving forward into the next.

This is not to say the transition into “the real world” was easy, as he spent the past ten years “working on and thinking about [golf]”. But his faith did help him make it through that process, as he knew his identity was not rooted in his sport, but in something far greater.

By staying “relentlessly focused, relationally rich, results driven, and resilient” in every aspect of his life (just as was instilled within him as an athlete), Ryan was able to walk through every door open to him until he determined what to do next.

I am grateful for the chance to help tell his story, and I hope that you all enjoy my interview with Ryan Grant.

She does not want to simply help others in the way she most sees fit, Terri seeks to understand what someone particularly needs assistance with and how she might use her strengths to best help.

This desire to help others stems from the values instilled within her mother, her coaches, and her years pounding away around a 400-meter oval. Terri knew from an early age that so long as you “dig in and try”, truly anything is possible. With the passing of Title IX, the opportunity to run track and field in college on a scholarship opened up to her, and she would stop at nothing to make the most of this chance. Prior to graduating high school, Terri received an offer from the University of Georgia, and she proudly headed off to Athens wearing that black and red. She represented her university and utilized every bit of resilience and mental toughness she developed as an athlete to help propel her into a successful post-athletic career life.

Her journey has seen many different turns, because Terri was brave enough to walk through any door opened to her.

I am so happy to have had the chance to speak with a fellow lover of track and field, and I hope that you all enjoy my discussion with Coca-Cola’s own Terri Polk.

Welcome to a special episode of Keep Moving Forward, featuring an additional weekly dose of inspiration. Today, I had the opportunity to speak with Miss Marqué Modest herself, Allie Shirley.

“Just start with what you have.” As a sophomore in high school, Allie sat in a auditorium at church camp and she heard God’s voice speak to her about a vision He had for her life. That day, Allie knew that she would create her own modest clothing line, so she could be an advocate for and a champion of strong women everywhere. In creating her own line, Allie’s aim is to “change the tone of the fashion industry” while simultaneously creating “a place where women can find their dignity and worth again.”

Allie sees limitless possibilities for Marqué Modest, and will not stop working until she achieves the mission she knows God has placed on her heart.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart.” -Colossians 3:23, NIV

After hearing Allie’s story, I hope you are invigorated to go forth and take on full force the life that you are called to live. If you would like to learn more about Allie, you can visit http://marquemodestapparel.com/, and follow Marqué Modest Apparel on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.

“As long as your mission is worthy, you will succeed.” Rennie Curran lives and breathes this mantra, witnessing firsthand the importance of placing family first in all things. His parents escaped Liberia, knowing that there was a better future ahead for themselves as well as for the family they had to leave behind. As they tirelessly worked to create a new life in America, Rennie never once saw them act selfishly; everything they did was in pursuit of a better life for those they loved. Rennie grew up with the same heart for helping others, and it shined brightly in all aspects of his life, especially on the football field.

Falling in love with the sport and the possibilities it would allow him and his family, Rennie charged ahead in his athletic career. Attending the University of Georgia on a full scholarship, Rennie amassed a number of accolades while he was there and turned the head of the NFL. After three years at the collegiate level, Rennie turned pro, playing in both the National Football League and the Canadian Football League. Holding fast to the driving point behind his decision making as what would be best for his family, Rennie approached every situation with a selfless attitude.

Knowing that his athletic career would come to a close at some point in his life, Rennie took the necessary steps to prepare himself for a successful career post-football. Now a distinguished author, sought-after speaker, and life/business coach, Rennie knows the importance of branding yourself in the exact way you want others to perceive you, because it’s all about perspective. And not just the perspective of those who look at you from the outside, but how you view yourself, as well.

I hope that you all enjoy my interview with an individual who always works like he is a starter, Rennie Curran.
