It is one of the rare family films that shows what families are about – even the ugly parts. Despite having an all-star cast in Diane Keaton, Craig T. Nelson, Sarah Jessica Parker and Rachel McAdams, the film was met with mostly mixed reviews by critics who felt the script was plagued with family-gathering cliches. This week we are talking 1996’s Eraser - a film that is arguably the last “true” Arnold Schwarzenegger action film. Arnold is John Kruger, a U.S. Marshal working for Witness Protection, who has to protect whistleblower Lee (Vanessa L. Williams) from her bosses, shady weapons developers who plan on selling their latest invention — a high-powered, fancy-schmancy rifle — to enemies of the U.S. Considering the critical debacle this film would become, we can only assume that critics of the 90’s were haters and just not ready for CGI alligators, over the top action and classic Arnold one-liners!

Released on August 14, 1996, the film went on to gross just over $7 million at the box office and was widely panned by critics. In true Recount fashion, we dispute these critiques and discuss all the reasons why we (and every other 90’s kid) adore this movie.
