This 15 minute video dance drama as created with a group of 25 11- 17 year olds, working along side a professional video production crew. Therea€™s Something You Should Know is the outcome of a year-long performance and video project which explored ways of enabling people with a learning disability to work with drama, dance and video specialists to create individual and collective art works. The programme was initiated by Lung Haa€™s, an Edinburgh-based professional theatre company that provides opportunities for adults with a learning disability to participate in the performing arts and produces large-scale venue specific and small scale touring productions with the highest production values. The Truth was collaboration with Simon Fildes, and Kate Gowar and Karin Fisher-Potisk, the co-Artistic Directors of Ricochet Dance Productions, an established company that at the time had revenue funding from Arts Council England. A documentary about the work of choreographer and teacher Royston Maldoom and Dance United in Holloway Womena€™s Prison, London, where they created a live dance performance with the women in the prison. The challenge in making this film was to capture the essence of the incredible work being done by Royston, his colleagues and the people they work with. Dance United works with marginalised groups and divided communities promoting dance as a means of raising esteem and changing attitudes. Made in the memory of the young dancer and film maker Michele Fox who died in 1997 at the age of 30 from cancer. The coalition came into government with a firm belief that an army of shirkers was bleeding the state dry with fake disabilities.
The focus so far has been on the absurdities of the physical disabilities that have been discounted by the WCA: claimants have to score 15 points to stay on the full allowance. At the same time, there’s no understanding of people whose illness has a high anxiety component, who might never even open their post, let alone be able to face an appointment. So, typically, this might result in the treatment meted out to Man A (he wishes to remain anonymous) who has bipolar disorder, and suffers severe depressive episodes that can last up to two months, several times a year. But before you even consider the politics behind all this – whether removing benefits from anyone is a fair way to stimulate employment when there is a shortage of jobs – there’s a clear discrimination case to answer. Furthermore, if you have arthritis and your benefits are cut, your life will get worse but your arthritis won’t, necessarily.
Over five years, Katrina filmed Kirstie Simson performing and teaching across Europe, culminating in a one-off performance with Michael Schumacher, Kenzo Kasuda and Dai Jian at the Universal Hall in July 2010.

Effort, dynamic, balance and style weave together in a physical exploration of the failure and success of 4 solo climbers.
Made over a 9 month period with clients of the hospital and in collaboration with artists from Drake Music Scotland and Dance Base, Scotlanda€™s National Dance Agency.

The aim of the project is to explore how the embedded processes of video dance, evolved specifically through my own practice to include improvisation, can alter and optimize the understanding and appreciation of improvised dance performance. The project was funded y the Scottish Arts Councila€™s children and Young Peoplea€™s Fund and co-produced by Goat and East Lothian District Council with Dance Artist in residence, Dawn Hartley.
The work was funded through the Scottish Arts Council for the European Year of Disability and by East Lothian Council and West Lothian Council.
The concept of observation is important as this happens between the dancers and the cameras and amongst the dancers themselves, not only through sight but also through hearing and energy.
What began as an experimental project in the streets of Addis Ababa is now a vibrant, internationally acclaimed, success story. Filmed over a five-week period, observational footage is juxtaposed with filmed dance material and specially conducted interviews. We strove to create a fils that contained the factual information that needs to be imparted and whilst at the same time communicate the power and potential of dance as a means of expression and as a tool for social change. The film was commissioned by her family and is a tribute to her passion for the challenges of making innivative dance for the screen.
Moment has been screened atA  numerous festivals and curated programmes acrossA  the world, including Moving Pictures, Canada, Mostra Video Danza, Barcelona, Dance Camera West, Los Angeles and Rotation a€™03 in Helsinki, Finland, where it formed part of a six film retrospective of Katrinaa€™s work. The aim of the project is to explore how the embedded processes of video dance, evolved specifically through my own practice to include improvisation, can alter and optimize the understanding and appreciation of improvised dance performance.A  The first stage of the research was carried out during a week-long residency at Casina Settarte in Puglia, Italy with 25 international dance artists led by Kirstie Simson. Its weaknesses are many and varied, but in a nutshell, the system is that you chuck as many people as you can into the deep end and whoever floats long enough to take you to tribunal, well, congratulations. A person with multiple sclerosis scored zero, despite a surgeon’s letter stating he was too ill to work. Atos, the company responsible for the assessments, does not require staff to have any training in or understanding of mental illness.
If you have depression and you are treated outrageously by a system that was apparently designed to reject your legitimate claim, then your depression very probably will worsen. Each one tackles a challenging route on freestanding boulders across 4 highland locations, The aesthetic potential of the climbersa€™ performances is drawn into focus by the cameraa€™s framing.
Project funded by the Scottish Arts Council, Fife Council, Exxon, Arts and Business Scotland, Fife Council and NHS Fife. A collaboration with dance-artists Janice Parker (Creative Scotland Award winner, 2004) and Karen Anderson of Independence (Glasgow), to engage with a group of people who have severe learning disabilities and often very limited physical movement, to create a video dance work. It received positive reviews in both newspapers the Herald (Mary Brennan) and Sunday Herald (Ellie Carr) (both November 2004).
Made with choreographer Katy Dymoke of Touchdown Dance, working with sighted and visually impaired dancers in the Contact Improvisation form. It is a story of a struggling urban population and of empowerment; a story of social outreach and advocacy and of feeding skills back into the community. This is a film about a project that celebrates the creativity and potential of the women of HMP Holloway. It is toured internationally by the British Council as part of their Forward Motion program of innovative dance films and by IMZ Dance Screen as part of their award-winners program. Meskipun kudis dan keloid semua potensi tato, tidak satupun dari mereka yang pernah terjadi pada saya. The Tories want to end this culture once and for all; in the case of the disability living allowance, by reassessing claimants. Think of a 16th-century witchcraft trial, take away the transparency and public approval, and you have it about right. There is no provision set for conditions in which the patient might have poor insight into his or her own illness. As a result he became stressed, his symptoms worsened and he had frequent suicidal thoughts. To devise a test, therefore, that might (patchily) assess physical impairment but doesn’t, except in the crudest terms, address mental illness, is discriminatory.

Tribunals may sort out the injustice suffered by individuals, but what this situation demands is a class action against the discrimination that underpins it. The editing creates an involving and evolving 4 way video counterpoint that echoes the communality of the bouldering culture. Methods employed during the filming process drew on the research that I have done in previous projects into the use of improvisation as a core element of making video dance. It is the story of young people from the streets of Addis Ababa who are radically changing their lives and the lives of others. For five demanding weeks nearly 200 women contributed their time and skills to a challenging and demanding programme that brought together dance in performance, dance on film, original writing and the design and making of costumes and backdrops. At the heart of the work is a passionate belief in the power and joy of dance and its transforming potential.
The last government introduced the work capability assessment for new claimants; the difference now is that all claimants have to be assessed.
Charities warn that the coalition’s whole welfare reform bill penalises cancer patients. Claimants are asked how they arrived at the appointment: if they managed to take public transport alone, and are presentably dressed, this counts strongly against them.
A survey by the mental health campaign Rethink of the people who have been reassessed so far showed that only 12% felt that the assessor had even understood their condition; 80% said the stress and anxiety had worsened their health. He had to wait 11 months for his appeal, at which the judge said he had no case to answer, and he will now receive his backdated benefits. Displayed alongside is specially commissioned Laban notation of the duets between human and rock.
The soundtrack was created with actuality sounds recorded whilst filming, a technique that we have developed together over a number of screen-based works. This film celebrates the culmination of five years of intensive work by the Adugna dancers under the artistic direction of Royston Maldoom, Mags Byrne and their Anglo-Ethiopian team. The significance of the moment, whether solitary or between them, is explored as time is slowed down, stretched, speeded up, repeated and stopped. The soundtrack was createdA  with actuality sounds recorded whilst filming, a technique that we have developed together over a number of screen-based works. The WCA is so riven with faults that it’s hard to see what kind of mental illness would, under its terms, actually qualify someone for help. More usually deployed to notate dance, these scores further emphasis the performative nature of the climbersa€™ sport.
The resulting 6-minute single screen work combines the formal aesthetics of non-narrative video dance, whilst at the same time foregrounding performers who would otherwise not be seen within the public domain.
Adugna have already achieved a high profile with performances at both local and international level. So there’s no acknowledgement that mental illness fluctuates, and someone might be fine on one day, but incapacitated the next. Adugna demonstrates the tremendous potential not only of Ethiopias youth but of all young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Setiap kali Anda Aove melihat tato, Anda, Aove tampak seseorang AOS epidermis jika itu jendela.
The Adugna Community Dance Theatre is testimony to what can be achieved when the creative arts are given a central role in human and social development. Dan tergantung pada pigmentasi kulit, kadang-kadang itu jendela terang atau gelap, susu atau coklat. The challenge in making these films was to capture the essence of the incredible work being done by Royston, his colleagues and the people they work with. We strove to create two films that contain the factual information that needs to be imparted and whilst at the same time communicate the power and potential of dance as a means of expression and as a tool for social change.
