Utterly rustic and purely practical – this masterpiece of a chaise longue is actually a DIY contrivance!
A proud native of the beautiful steel township of Durgapur, West Bengal, Dattatreya’s fascination lies within a range of diverse matters. But then I thought, you maybe don't have a Momplex needing siding and decks put on, and maybe you would want to build and enjoy some chaise lounges this summer. So I turned to my good friend Brook over at Being Brook - who's tagline is Create Awesome, but really should be I'M AWESOME - for some help. We really wanted to make these chaise lounges very affordable, so they are 24" wide to conserve wood - made of 1x3s which tend to be significantly cheaper than their slightly larger buddies, 1x4s. Of course we have the plans right here for you - but please, take a second and stop over and read Brook's post on building these lounge chairs and her tips and tricks!
Step 8 Instructions:  Brook is also sharing with us her step by step finishing tutorial here to get this amazing finish!
It is always recommended to apply a test coat on a hidden area or scrap piece to ensure color evenness and adhesion.
Hi Mark - I asked Brook to place the notches where she felt they would be most comfortable to you.
From someone whose big accomplishment this year was learning how to use a dremmel to build a pinewood derby car (cute but not fast), I have a few layman questions . Thank youI love this site and if I can pull this off, I think I will double major in mommying and wood shop and build lots more stuff! You should also remember that you could adjust the size of the wooden chaise lounge chair, in order to suit your needs and tastes. A wooden chaise lounge is a great example of a diy project that doesn’t require a large investment, but change dramatically the look of any patio or deck.

Top Tip: Adjust the size of the chair to your needs, but use the same carpentry techniques described in this guide.

After building the backrest, as well as the prop-up you should fit it into place and lock it with one carriage bolt on both sides.
Top Tip: Drill pilot holes both trough the frame of the lounge chair and trough the back rest. To Tip: If you will place the chair in the garden, you have to apply several coats of wood stain, in order to protect it from rot.
With a bachelor’s degree in architecture, he is quite fond of his hardcore strategy gamer as well as amateur historian tag.
Thread one bolt through a washer, slide the bolt through the whole on the outside rail, add one more washer, add the back of the chair, add another washer and then the nut on the end. If you want to add character to your patio or deck, a lounge chair is perfect, as it is a straight forward project that doesn’t require a large investment. Nevertheless, you should still use the same woodworking techniques described in this project, even if the components would have other dimensions. There are many designs and shapes you could choose from,  but in this article we show you plans for a simple lounge chair, that can be built in just a weekend.
As you an see in the image, you should round the top ends of the side braces, in order to flip properly.
In order to get the job done in a professional manner, you should make sure the backrest is horizontal, when drilling the pilot holes. Insert the bolts and tighten the nuts properly, making sure you don’t damage the lumber.

Leave the compound to dry out for several hours, before sanding the wooden surface with a sander (use 120- sander), along the wood grain. If you want to see more outdoor plans, check out the rest of our step by step projects and follow the instructions, in order to obtain a professional result. However, the best part about the whole conception is that with the relatively high commercial credentials of chopped firewood (be it in our fireplaces or log cabins) makes it easier to obtain the material from local lumberyards.
Of course, with over two years of blogging experience under his belt, he also likes to write about the latest updates on home based technology and gizmo oriented products. Choose the chair design that fits your needs and tastes, before buying quality materials for the job.
In order to secure the legs to the frame, you should notch the top part with a circular saw. Assemble the components together with 2” screws, after drilling pilot holes in the lumber.
If you're really concerned, you might want to tweek the legs or the support with beefier wood like 2x4.
Cedar, redwood or pine are great choices, as these components would look great and be highly durable. Pre-drill the wooden components before inserting the screws, to prevent the wood from splitting.
