The Oxford Club’s

Wealth, Wine & Wander Tour of Portugal

May 31 – June 9, 2019  I  Lisbon Porto

Step aside, France, Italy and Spain... the spotlight now belongs to Portugal

Steven King here with a very special message...

I bet you’ve visited Europe several times, but Portugal may have never crossed your mind. See, people tend to forget about this little country on the Atlantic.

But I can assure you, those who never reach its picturesque shores will without a doubt regret it.

Because once you feast your eyes on its breathtaking coastlines, indulge in its vibrant culture and sip its award-winning wine... it’ll be hard to leave.

Which is why choosing Portugal for our Wealth, Wine & Wander Tour was a very easy decision.

Simply put, Portugal has it all...

The Views

Portugal offers its visitors some of the most attractive scenery in the world, like...

Its turquoise coastlines...

Color-popping cities...

And ultra-lush countryside.

The Food

Portugal might have the most underrated cuisine in Europe...

With an extensive list of superlative ingredients, from delectable olive oil to caught-that-same-morning seafood... your taste buds are sure to go on a trip of their own.

Be sure to snack on a “pasteis de nata”... but be careful – you might not be able to stop...

The Wine

Move over, France... Portugal has 13 flourishing wine-producing regions with more than 250 indigenous grape varieties. Which can mean only one thing: you’ve never tasted wine like the kind you’ll sip this coming May.

To most wine experts, Portugal is actually considered the final frontier in Western Europe... but there’s still plenty to be explored and tasted.

The Lifestyle

As of 2017, Portugal was recognized for having the best quality of life for both natives and newcomers... need I say more?

And finally...

A Whole New World of Opportunities

No wonder there’s been a recent surge in tourism...

Portugal has the sights, the cuisine, the adventure and a very cheap price tag (59% less expensive than Paris, to be exact).

It hasn’t always been this way for Portugal. In the early 2000s, the country’s economy took a nosedive into a severe recession – one that’s taken the country nearly two decades to recover from.

But now that’s all water under the bridge... and the economy is booming. The substantial economic recovery has not only led Portugal to flourish, but has also put the country in a very enviable position compared to its neighbors.

Portugal now has world-class infrastructure, a favorable tax system, a highly qualified workforce, strong investment qualities and a safe environment.

Portugal has quickly become Europe’s best-kept secret for foreign investors.

Especially with its Golden Visa program…

With as little as 280,000 euros invested in property, you are eligible for this residency program – that’s 30% less than countries with similar incentive plans. Even better, while other countries who offer these programs require a 3-6 months presence, you’ll only need to be in the country seven days out of the year.

Including eligibility for EU/EEA/Switzerland or Portuguese residence permit holders a ten-year tax exemption as part of the Non-Habitual Residence regime.

Certain tax exemptions have also found their way to benefiting those with banking and safe-guarding their personal investments.

And seeing how easy it is to obtain residency and invest here – it’s easy to see why this country is finally grabbing our attention.

Which leads me to this...

I’ve prepared two special financial seminar events for our time in Portugal, offering an insider’s look into recent financial developments and exciting investment opportunities. These will be presented to you by the trip’s hosts, as well as local experts we’ll meet along the way.

What to Expect on the Wealth, Wine & Wander Tour

This exquisite expedition through Portugal will be hosted by CEO and Executive Publisher Julia Guth, Chief Investment Strategist Alexander Green and lifestyle expert and friend of The Oxford Club Fritz Satran...

He also happens to be great fun, and you’ll enjoy sitting down for a coffee or glass on wine and discussing life with him and his team.”

I’ve just told you a bit about Portugal and your Wealth, Wine & Wander Tour hosts...

Now I’d like to walk you through the 10 days we’ll spend together in Portugal.

So please, read on...

Day 1: May 31, 2019

Depart this evening on an overnight flight to Porto, Portugal. Direct service from the U.S. is available on United from Newark. Connecting flights via Madrid or Lisbon are offered by TAP Air Portugal and many other carriers.

Day 2: June 1, 2019

We arrive this morning in Porto, Portugal’s second-largest city. Porto is known for stately bridges, a medieval old town that winds over hills surrounding the Douro River, and, of course, the production of port wine. Modern Porto is a lovely mix of picturesque streets full of history and the natives’ deep love for fine food and design.

Upon arrival, our transfer will whisk you to Porto’s most prestigious hotel, The Yeatman. Set on seven acres of land overlooking the city, The Yeatman offers distinctive accommodations and truly spectacular outdoor areas. The afternoon is free for relaxing and settling in before we gather on one of the hotel’s terraces for a welcome cocktail reception and a chance to greet friends old and new. Then it’s on to dinner overlooking the lights of beautiful Porto.

Day 3: June 2, 2019

Today we follow the river out of Porto and head toward the Douro Valley. Once known mostly for port wines, this region is now justifiably famous for wine production of all kinds, as well as absolutely stunning natural beauty.

We’ll have the chance to explore the beautiful countryside and enjoy a lunch of traditional specialties. And of course, after lunch, we’ll visit a winery and taste some exclusive Douro Valley wines. By the late afternoon, we’ll make our way back to Porto for some free time before heading to dinner at a local favorite.

Day 4: June 3, 2019

This morning we’ll gather for a seminar with Oxford Club editors and other financial experts. The seminar will be followed by a buffet lunch at the hotel, and then it’s off to explore Porto and discover what makes this UNESCO World Heritage city so unique.

We’ll explore São Bento Station, with its distinctive blue and white tilework, and the Sé do Porto cathedral, with its twin towers. The evening is free to discover one of the city’s trendy restaurants in Foz or shop for some wine to take home.

Day 5: June 4, 2019

We’ll bid farewell to Porto in the morning, and set out to discover some of Portugal’s smaller cities, which are truly rich in history. Our first stop is Coimbra, located on the Mondego River and home to one of the oldest universities in the world. Then it’s on to Tomar, where the Convento de Cristo was originally a stronghold of the Knights Templar in the 12th century.

We’ll have lunch and enjoy a guided tour of the Convento. The afternoon will bring us to Évora, a medieval town of whitewashed houses and wrought-iron balconies. Our hotel in Évora is the Convento do Espinheiro, recently named the best resort in Spain and Portugal by Travel + Leisure. Tonight, enjoy a tapas dinner prepared especially for our group.

Day 6: June 5, 2019

Today’s walking tour takes us through the historic center of Évora. This was the home of Portuguese kings during the country’s Golden Age, and the architecture of the royal palaces reflects the country’s Roman roots, as well as Moorish influences. After a light lunch in town, the afternoon will be free for relaxing and enjoying the many sumptuous facilities of the hotel, or continuing to explore the meandering streets of Évora. We’ll gather again for dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 7: June 6, 2019

This morning we’ll depart Évora and head for the colorful capital city of Lisbon. A quick city tour upon arrival gives us an overview of this fascinating city, which was built over seven hillsides. Lunch will be served after our tour, and then we’ll check in at Lisbon’s finest address, the Four Seasons Hotel Ritz. The history of the hotel is evident in the art deco design, while the hotel has been fully updated to offer the amenities expected by the most demanding modern travelers. The hotel even houses a collection of notable contemporary artwork. There will be time to settle in this afternoon before we enjoy welcome cocktails and an al fresco dinner at the hotel.

Day 8: June 7, 2019

Another informative financial seminar awaits us this morning. Then it’s on to a special treat as we explore Lisbon in the tradition of the world’s great explorers, aboard a classic three-mast ship. We’ll cruise in style along the Tagus River to the beach town of Cascais on the Portuguese Riviera, where we’ll disembark for some time to explore Cascais and enjoy some of the seafood delicacies on offer there. Then we’ll return to Lisbon for a free evening.

Day 9: June 8, 2019

Today’s visit takes us to the royal sanctuary of Sintra, with its colorful palaces built into the hillsides overlooking the ocean. After exploring the 19th-century Romantic architecture, cobblestone streets and dense forests, you’ll understand why Lord Byron once referred to the town as a “glorious Eden.” Sintra’s most recognizable landmark is the National Palace of Pena, inspired by German castles along the Rhine but displaying a distinctly Portuguese flavor all its own.

After lunch in Sintra, we’ll return to Lisbon for a free afternoon to finish up any last-minute shopping and sightseeing. Tonight, you’re invited to join us for a very special event as we enjoy a private gala dinner at a lavish 18th-century palace.

Day 10: June 9, 2019

Reluctantly we must say goodbye to friends and to this lovely country, keeping memories of this once-in-a-lifetime experience with other Oxford Club Members in Portugal. Our tour ends after breakfast this morning, with transfers to the airport for return flights to the U.S. or other destinations.
