The Chevrolet Camaro convertible could make its way to Australia following the closure of Holden's factories in 2017. Holden looks set to follow the lead of Ford and give grieving fans an iconic V8 muscle car to ease the pain of its 2017 factory closure. Mr Reuss would not speculate which cars in the Chevrolet line-up would make it to Australia, but vehicles that are built in left-hand-drive only for now include the iconic Camaro and Corvette sports cars, and the range of Chevrolet full-size pick-ups and SUVs.
Holden has been thrashed in the pick-up sales race by the Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger, Nissan Navara and Mitsubishi Triton. Holden was close to getting a right-hand-drive version of the current Camaro until the Global Financial Crisis crushed those plans.
At the same function last year, the then boss of General Motors, Dan Akerson, told News Corp Australia that the new Corvette would be made in right-hand-drive for the first time in 50 years. When pressed on how the boss of the company could get such a key fact wrong during a media presentation, Mr Lee said: “We can spend the entire 20 minutes talking about this. News Corp Australia understands that Mr Reuss, having been a boss of Holden, understands the frustration of a limited model line-up. With high-level support at three key stages of General Motors’ management, Holden has its best chance yet of getting sought after US cars. Meanwhile, the shutdown of Holden’s factory in 2017 is almost certain to change the face of the Commodore of the future. But News Corp Australia understands Holden now has three options on the table: the Chinese Buick design, or it can take the Chevrolet or Opel equivalents of the new large sedan. The future Commodore will still switch to front-wheel-drive (after 65 years of large rear-wheel-drive Holden sedans) but executives in Australia are reportedly fighting to make a V6 available as an option to avoid a buyer backlash.
The BMW 440i Gran Coupe is priced from $99,900 and replaces the 435i Gran Coupe in the 4 Series range, which is itself a spin-off of the 3 Series. This list price is $20,000 more than the 430i Gran Coupe below it. Plenty of new car choices are available for under $20 grand on the road, but pretty much all are in the light car or smaller micro car segments. In total, some 26 models are available from about 15 manufacturers which gives consumers a wide selection to choose from.
A bit more go from the 1.4-litre engine would be welcome as well as lumbar support adjustment but as it is, the price, warranty, capped price servicing drive feel and look of the car are hard to resist. The Veloster isn't perfect, but it's a solid effort from a company relatively new to the business of building sports cars. The new Ford Mustang lives up to the hype, just please give us a bit more V8 grunt.Four-cylinder or V8?From the outside you can barely pick the difference. We turn the spotlight on the car world's newest and brightest stars as we ask the questions to which you want the answers. Ford will introduce a Mustang just as the last Falcon is about to roll off the Broadmeadows production line and it now seems General Motors is hatching a similar plan by introducing the Camaro just as the Commodore comes to an end.

But less than 24 hours later the company made a U-turn on the comments, with GM’s second-in-charge Tim Lee telling News Corp Australia: “I have no idea what [General Motors CEO Dan Akerson] said but we have no plan to put a right-hand-drive under that bonnet. General Motors’ new boss of International Operations, former Volkswagen and Volvo executive Stefan Jacoby, is also understood to have been surprised by Holden’s inability to get highly desirable US-only models. However a Holden spokesman said the plans for any right-hand-drive versions of US models were yet to be approved, and would then need to undergo a feasibility study. Originally, when the model was to be made locally, the 2018 Commodore was going to share its design with a Chinese-built Buick.
This means the next Commodore could be made in China, Europe or North America, with which Australia has a Free Trade Agreement. Maserati has introduced an all-new model called the Ghibli and it's everything you expect from one of the legendary Italian sporting marques - lovely styling, hot performance and a zest for life that true car lovers will greet with great enthusiasm. There's one thing missing, though - big numbers on the price tag. If you've ever enjoyed driving the Ghibli should be added to your short list, but do it quickly because global sales have greatly exceed expectations and a waiting list is starting to lengthen. That queue is likely to get even longer because Maserati celebrates it's 100th anniversary at the end of 2014 and is planning activities that are likely to create even more interest worldwide.
But there's only one question that really needs answering would you buy one? What is it?Another addition to BMW’s lineup of sporty SUVs. It’s a well rounded package, with the looks and performance to match and a hip height that is going to curry favour with older buyers.
Demand for US-only utes in Australia is so strong that a number of local businesses have been converting them to right-hand-drive and selling them for in excess of $100,000. But Holden fans shouldn’t get too excited about every vehicle in the Chevrolet range being available in Australia.
Out-going Holden boss Mike Devereux, whose replacement is yet to be named, has also been pushing for more right-hand-drive models be made available in Australia. India, Thailand, Japan, Korea and Europe with the lion's share of sales going to Mazda2 and Toyota Yaris with Hyundai's i20 and Suzuki's Swift on the scent.Kia is in there too with the Rio, arguably one of the better lookers in the segment and priced from an affordable $15,990…. SR Turbo variants also get the flex steer system and thetop of the range model gets heated and ventilated seats, as well as anew instrument cluster.
Smaller and more practical than the odd-looking X6, it sits on the same platform and has the same running gear as the more conservative X3. A six-speed manual gearbox is a no-cost option. Is the 440i Gran Coupe your pick of the new 4 Series range? A redesigned front grille and different alloys complete the visual changes. There are also tweaks under the surface on the turbo model, with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission replacing the current six-speed. BMW says this car is targeted at customers who desire premium motoring with a point of difference. How much?Prices for the X4 start at $69,900 for the entry level petrol model.
If you can feel the difference you're better than me".No burnouts hereIn the US, the Mustang has a "burnout" mode which disables the rear brakes while leaving the front brakes active. We couldn't actually do that because the absolute base model wasn't available so we drove the next one up - the five door, manual, Rio S hatch that sells for $16,990 plus on roads.Kia recently freshened Rio adding some kit and fiddling the model range adding some more choices. The steering was reassuringly precise and the suspension coped well with potholes and corrugations. The Veloster is a fun way to eat up the kilometres on a scenic back roadThe ride was busy at times, but not harsh or unsettled, while grip was good for the conditions. It starts with 19 exterior colours, different wheel sizes and designs, then there are cabins finished in leather of numerous shades and styles, with various stitching.
In short the Veloster is a fun way to eat up the kilometres on a scenic back road. The track showed up some flaws in the Veloster, though. But our homegrown Falcon XR8 and Falcon XR6 Turbo sedans are quicker. The turbo four-cylinder Mustang is the dark horse (pun intended).
All X4s come with an eight-speed auto, in this case a sports auto that includes gear shift paddles. How does it go?Gets off the line fairly quickly and has plenty of torque on tap.
If you want the more up to date direct injection engine you'll have to go for the 1.6-litre car at significantly more money.

For the most part it feels stable and predictable through corners, but it can squirm a little under heavy braking and is not as planted as some rivals when asked to change direction quickly. The Flex steer system, already available on other Hyundais, is a bit gimmicky, with the sport setting merely making the wheel harder to turn.
Although 90 per cent of orders are for the V8, the four-cylinder is in many ways the smarter choice.Mustang fans have just coughed up whatever they're eating at such an outrageous comment, but trust me. The model simply called the Ghibli has a 243 kW (that's 330 horsepower in Italian) powerplant. It also gets an optional six speed auto whereas the 1.4 engine makes do with an old school four speed auto.
The normal or comfort settings provide better feel, and the steering in these modes is nicely weighted and precise. The new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission also has room for improvement. Why?The manual across all Rio variants is a six speeder offering a smooth shift action and relatively closely spaced gear ratios. In sport mode it is too eager to change up a gear, making it sluggish out of low speed corners.
Massive race-bred, six-piston Brembo brakes give the big coupe the reflexes of a startled cat. Many car makers customarily overlook brakes when it comes to performance, but power is nothing without control. The X4 also features auto stop-start and brake energy regeneration to reduce fuel consumption. Is it green? Not bad.
Gets 3.5 out of five stars from the Government's Green Vehicle Guide (benchmark Prius scores five out of five). I'm just relieved Ford Australia's product planners appreciated them too, because they're optional in the US. Fuel consumption is lower than that of the turbo-petrols.Maserati had ZF tune its eight-speed automatic transmission specifically to suit the sporting wishes of Italian sports sedan drivers. The Mustang would be a lesser car without them. The manual gearshift is not going to be mistaken for a Toyota Corolla's, but it's slick and smooth enough given the hardware underneath. So, what's not to like?
Naturally, there is a variety of modes that change the characteristics of the engine, transmission and steering.
Comes with front, side and curtain airbags, along with a rear view camera, front and rear parking sensors, electronic traction and stability control, ABS anti-lock brakes and a string of other acronyms including CBC (Cornering Brake Control), DBC (Dynamic Brake Control), Dry Braking function, Fading Compensation, Start-Off Assistant, HDC (Hill Descent Control) and Performance Control. Is it comfortable?Easy to get in and out of. Sounds like you've broken it but feels broken to begin with; it doesn't do anything.Would these minor annoyances stop anyone from buying one? The silent at idle engine is 'adequate' and when you put the foot down you get more noise and a bit more acceleration. Acceleration is nearly free of turbo lag thanks to the use of two small turbos rather than a single large one. Once the engine is full on song and the ZF auto is in the right gear there's a seemingly endless surge of torque.
Colour scheme in our test vehicle was garish, with a combination of grey wood, chocolate coloured leather and contrasting light brown stitching. Good combination of performance and economy.
This makes for ultra-safe overtaking and the ability to deal with hills as though they aren't there. Then there's the sound, the glorious sound that had us hitting the Sport button and powering down the windows to listen to the semi-race exhaust note.
The result is a big car that feels almost like a small one in its willingness to respond to the driver's commands. Road grip is immense, so strong that may we suggest taking it to a track day sometime to get a feel of how good the Maser is at the limit? Feedback thorough the steering and the body is excellent and this Italian masterpiece really does talk to the driver. Most drivers will be able to find a position that suits them nicely for hard travelling.
Taller than average drivers may have to give up some legroom if there's an equally tall person behind them and we're not sure we would like to make long trips with four on board.
