The horrific crash on the Hutchinson River Parkway killed cabbie Ata Noorzi, 51, and his fare Patrick Sheehan, 54 a€” and left their combined seven kids fatherless, relatives said. Noorzi, an Afghani immigrant, had two sons and two daughters, while banker Sheehan a€” the original Jack the Bulldog mascot at his alma mater, Georgetown University a€” was the dad of three boys.

The pair left the leafy block inside the 2010 Lincoln Town Car and headed for LaGuardia Airport a€” but only made it about 6 miles before tragedy struck.
The 45-year-old driver skidded across three lanes, slammed into the median and sailed directly into Noorzia€™s cab a€” tearing its roof off and killing both men inside, cops said.
The black SUV then slammed into a white SUV, bounced into the overpass and finally came to a stop on its roof. Witness Rafael Ramos, 29, was driving behind the livery cab and tried to help the doomed duo. The driver, who lives in White Plains, was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center with his passenger.
Cops were pursuing a court order to get a blood sample from the driver to determine if he was drunk or high. The 49-year-old woman driving the white SUV and her 15-year-old son went to the same hospital with minor injuries.
Sheehana€™s brother Tim, 56, said his brother was the father of three boys a€” one in high school, the other two in college.
Sheehan, who was traveling for his job with Wells Fargo, was the first Georgetown student to don the Jack the Bulldog mascot costume for the Hoyas a€” back in 1977, according to a college alumni magazine.
His hobbies included woodworking, and Sheehan made furniture a€” often working into the wee hours of the morning.
Obid Noorzi recalled his brother working long hours to put his four children through private schools.
Noorzi ran his own business before beginning his career behind the wheel of a cab about 20 years ago. The cabbie was survived by his widow, who was too devastated to speak Saturday, along with his daughters Husna, 20, and Huseena, 18, and sons Abubarker, 17, and Imran, 6.
An elderly Port Jefferson Station man is dead following a single-car crash early Wednesday. Aiello, a retiree who did maintenance work at the East Meadow, New York, firehouse, was traveling west on the Northern State Parkway when he lost control of his Nissan Altima and struck a tree near Exit 42 in Dix Hills, State Police told Newsday. Aiello, known around the firehouse as “Patty,” had been a full-time maintenance worker at the firehouse ever since retiring as a New York City sanitation foreman about two decades ago. Aiello was the son of Italian immigrants who sold produce from a pushcart in the Little Italy section of the Bronx, his daughter Rose Ann Pfeiffer, 57, of Smithtown, told Newsday.
In the 1970’s, Aiello and his wife, Mary, and three daughters, moved to East Meadow, where Aiello joined the fire department  and fell in love with the atmosphere and camaraderie.
He didn’t work on Monday and on Tuesday Jim Aspenleiter, an East Meadow volunteer and maintenance worker, called to check on Aiello. The crash prompted a massive response on the part of NYPD and FDNY fire, medical and rescue units. Either there was human error in the operation of the ferry, or there was a mechanical failure. According to Coast Guard records the Seastreak Wall Street has been involved in at least three other collisions while docking, in 2006, 2009 and 2010. A taxi driver lost control of his vehicle, jumped the curb and plowed into a group of pedestrians on East 86th Street and Third Ave.
In a recent speech Bratton said that not only vehicle accidents leading to death but also vehicle accidents leading to serious personal injury would be fully investigated. The pedestrian, James Benedict, was about to enter his car parked on Lily Pond Avenue when he was struck by a 39 year old drunk driver who lost control of his SUV, resulting in the death of Mr.
He was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
His three daughters often tried to convince their father to cut back on his hours, but to no avail, according to Newsday.
Victims with faulty hip implants endure excruciating pain, pain in the groin, death of tissue in the hip joint and loss of surrounding bone. Carro cites the ferry’s accident-prone history as possible evidence of negligence and comments on the potential legal repercussions. At the scene they treated multiple injuries from broken bones to spinal injuries and severe lacerations.
Mechanical failure is almost always the result of not properly maintaining or inspecting critical components, whether we are talking about a ferry, a plane, a bus, or a crane.
News accounts of the crash on Wednesday referred to complaints by the crew of difficulty operating the ferry since a new propeller system was installed last summer.
According to Newsday, Aiello was a fixture at the station for more than 30 years, where he was known for cooking big breakfasts on Sundays, and being the first person to arrive in the morning. The crash remains under investigation, but police do not believe road conditions were a factor. PCBs are a dangerous toxic substance that doesn't break down easily and can cause chloracne, bleeding and neurological disorders, liver damage, spontaneous abortions, malformed babies, cancer, and death.
Of the 74 injured, 2 victims were described as being in “critical condition” with serious head wounds, while 9 others were in “serious condition”. Police reported that there were 326 passengers and 5 crewmembers aboard when the crash occurred.  The catamaran-style ferry makes daily trips from Manhattan to Central Jersey and has a capacity of 400 passengers.
The exact cause or causes must be determined so that steps can be taken to prevent future similar accidents.
