You will need to decide on which path to recommend/allow for your Teachers to access and assign HMH program content. HMH offers three paths of access for LMS users:
● Direct web login to Ed (via SSO)
● LTI platform integration using the Ed Linking Tool
● HMH Common Cartridge Product Package (Thin Common Cartridge + QTI files)
It is NOT RECOMMENDED or SUPPORTED for Teachers to use links from both TCC/QTI files for the same program on Ed while using the Ed Linking Tool.
Consider which path is the best for you to use, depending on your distrinct Implementation needs and goals.
Note: The integration is for titles on HMH Ed only. It does not apply to titles on the Think Central or HMO platforms. Content use inside LMS for titles that reside on those legacy platforms is only available through the HMH Common Cartridge Program Package (which includes TCC + QTI file types).
This access path . . . |
Is best suited for Districts that . . . |
Direct Ed login |
…do not require teachers to post, manage, and track assignments in their LMS. …want best ease-of-use experience for Teachers and Students in classes where HMH titles are primary resource for instruction. …can roster directly using SIS integrations or Intermediary providers to handle Rostering & SSO. |
LTI |
…require teachers to manage and track assignments in their LMS courses. …want to best functionality and most up-to-date course content available for LMS users. …want the most assessment item types (including TEIs) available for accurate reflection of student performance, while assessment scores still get posted to the LMS gradebook. |
CC + QTI |
…have used Thin Common Cartridge + QTI for the same Ed titles to build out full courses in previous years, and do not wish to replace those links. …require all assessment questions (text and metadata) to be controlled, assigned, and reported in their own Assessment platform. |

Note: You can have the Ed Linking Tool configured in your system but keep it disengaged until a time comes when you are prepared to make it available to your Teachers.
Student access point is needed for full Ed online experience. You must set up the path for students to access Connected Solutions programs, such as Growth Measure, Writable, Amira, and Waggle, and for them to review details and feedback from Ed assessments, they have completed.
It is recommended that you set up an SSO launch link on the course navigation panel of all courses for both Students and Teachers to easily access the full Ed Online experience. Note that Teachers may also access the full Ed Online experience through a launch link inside the Ed Linking Tool. Students do not have access to this and therefore need their own access point.
Begin planning now for how you will roll out this new HMH functionality to your Teachers inside Schoology.
● Decide how will you implement use of the Ed Linking Tool, including training plan – via early adopters, full push to everyone at certain grade levels, etc?
● A "Getting Started" course for LMS users will be available inside Ed Teacher’s Corner (coming soon)
● Best Practice tips for Teachers in using the Ed Linking Tool will be available on Teacher Online Help (coming soon)
● District Technical Planning: How can teachers open cases inside your district ticketing system for problems with co-rostering mismatches? What technical issues should be raised to HMH by a District Tech Admin vs. a Teacher, and how will you communicate about that?
● How can you gather feedback about the experience to share with HMH?
