Title: Effective Push Notification Copy

I’ve got a little secret for you, and it might make
you feel like your bubble’s been burst when it comes
to push notifications.

You only get between 40 and 120 characters for your
notifications, depending on the platform you’re on.

Yikes!

Twitter has a limit of 140 characters, and a lot of
people struggle to think of ways to say what they want
to say with so few characters!

So how in the world are you supposed to say what you
need to say in as few as 40 characters?

You’re going to have to learn the art of brevity and
the art of clarity.

See, there are ways to say things that don’t involve
using so many words. Sometimes using a lot of words
makes sense. Other times, not so much.

With push notifications, they only appear on screen for
a short time, so it’s critical to grab attention and
really get your message across.

The first thing to keep in mind is to concentrate on
one main element for your message. Don’t try to pack
a whole bunch of features or anything into your post.
Save that for your website. Instead, think of the one
most critical thing you need to say, and say it.

Let’s say you have a new pair of socks in that keeps
feet warm in sub-zero temperatures, are waterproof,
lightweight, durable, and fashionable. You don’t want
to say all that in one post, and even if you did,
you can’t because of the character limits.

So you could say something like:

“Keep your feet warm and dry in any weather with our
new all-weather socks!”

Everything else you need to say about those socks
can be said on the product’s sales page. The job of the
push notification is just to get them there!

Next, learn to be specific.

Don’t say you have a killer sale going on. Say you’re
offering a 40% discount on all purchases over $25.

Don’t say you have some great new products in stock. Say
you have 11 brand new styles of boots at up to 15%
off today only!

Finally, make sure to tell people to take action, and to
tell them HOW to take action.

Use phrases such as:

* Read it now!

* Get it now!

* Shop now!

Also, be sure to use those common sales trigger words like:

* You

* Now

* Free

Those will attract attention to your notifications AND are
likely to get users to take action!

Tomorrow we’re going to take a look at some providers of
