Title: Getting Started With Membership Sites

Hello,

If you’ve never run a membership site before, you might be
shocked to find out just how easy it can be!

You don’t need much to get started. Just:

1. An idea
2. A domain name
3. Hosting
4. Content
5. Software
6. A way to accept payments

You can get most of these things for free, and those that must
be paid for can be had for under twenty bucks total (or under
$150 if you choose a paid script option.)

For now, let’s take a look at the first things you need—an idea,
or a niche. Researching a niche online is free as long as you
have access to the internet!

One easy way to find potential niches is to search sites like
Pinterest, Instagram and Twitter for trending topics to see
what large numbers of people are interested in.

Another great way to research potential niches is at Google
Trends:

You can scroll down to see hundreds of the hottest trending
topics, but most of them will be related to current events and
politics, so they won’t be good for creating membership sites
around.

If you use the search box, you can narrow down the results to
something more useful. For example, you could search for a
broad niche such as skin care or weight loss and drill down to
find a sub-niche that could work for a membership site.

When you choose a niche, you want to make sure you’re selecting
one that has perennial appeal. It shouldn’t be seasonal like
pumpkin carving or snow sculptures. It shouldn’t be some passing
fad, like fidget spinners. It shouldn’t be something that people
only need briefly or rarely, such as a cure for hiccups or
Christmas decorating ideas.

A good topic for a membership site will:

1. Have perennial appeal
2. Have people who either NEED or passionately WANT information
3. Can provide something want regularly on an ongoing basis

Let’s say you know you want to work in the beauty niche.

You probably wouldn’t want to start one on a temporary issue
such as how to get rid of a cold sore, because even if someone
signed up, they’d cancel once their cold sore was gone. That
would probably be a month or two at most.

However, you might start one that centers around skin care, as
most people want to keep their skin looking good all the time.

A better idea might be various tutorials on makeup looks for
different occasions and for different hair colors and skin tones.

This would be something people would be interested in for a long
time, because people love to change their makeup looks for
various seasons, holidays, events, and even every day.

Now you have an idea of what makes a good idea for a membership
site.

Tomorrow, we are going to take a look at two more of the items
on our list of things you need for a membership site.

Until then,

PS- The two items we are going to discuss tomorrow only cost
about twenty bucks, total, so don’t miss it!
