Give Your Data a New Home! Use SMB Backup to Transfer Files from a Third-Party NAS to an ASUSTOR NAS

It’s become apparent that some NAS brands want to build walls around your product to prevent you from using your NAS in the way you want. ASUSTOR NAS devices support over 30 HDD and SSD brands, giving you complete freedom in storage! But it doesn’t end there! ADM happily talks with numerous different types of computing devices that also include competing NAS devices. Use SMB Backup in Backup and Restore to back up data to and from another NAS, ASUSTOR or otherwise! Let’s learn how to use the SMB backup feature to easily migrate important data to and from your ASUSTOR NAS.

* Before using SMB backup, please make sure SMB is enabled on both the source and destination devices.

Setting Up an SMB Backup Task
•  Open Backup & Restore > SMB Backup.
•  Click Create to begin setting up the backup task.

•    When performing the backup, choose to pull data from another SMB device to the ASUSTOR NAS.

•  Enter the IP address of the source SMB device.
•  If the default SMB port has not been changed, maintain its default value.

•  Enter the username and password that has access to the source device, then click Next.

Choose a Backup Method:
•    Multiple Folder Backup: Back up multiple folders into a single destination folder.
•    One-
on-One Backup: Both folders will contain the same contents.

•    Select a source folder then click Next.

•    Choose a destination folder on your ASUSTOR NAS, then click Next.

•    Name your backup task, and click Next.

•    Once completed, you’ll see the new task added to the SMB Backup Task List.
