It’s the New Year and we here at ASUSTOR wish you a happy new year. When working on our resolutions for the New Year, one of them should be double checking our backup habits and security plans with regards to personal and professional data. The first step is to double check and maintain your 3-2-1 backups. It’s not enough to simply set up a 3-2-1 backup and forget about as backups must be maintained and checked periodically to ensure backed up data is intact. Data backed up onto the cloud, while unlikely to disappear, is not guaranteed to be there or backup hard drives may wear down over time as materials used in hard drives break down through chemical reactions like oxidation or corruption of data from non-use over time through bit flips. It is imperative to test backups from time to time and power on equipment periodically to maintain backup integrity to ensure the protection of your data.
For additional data protection, ADM Defender now introduces a risk list to record suspicious IPs. After enabling IP risk detection, ADM will check any IP that attempts to connect to the NAS to defend against suspicious or malicious network attacks while Snapshot Center can schedule or manually create snapshots to protect against malicious modifications to data. If data is modified without intention or authorization, it can be restored to protect the integrity of said data. Safe backups require multiple processes and using ASUSTOR NAS devices ensures that you get the best in data protection.
