It is actually very easy to damage the trachea by pulling on a leash against a collar, especially if it is some sort of metal or choke chain collar, but it can happen with a regular collar as well. We tried the Gentle Leader and switch to the Easy Harness with our Toby to prevent injury to the trachea because he pulls when excited.
The earliest signs of kennel cough would be your dog coughing because of any pressure on his neck or any excitement. For the longest time, I have been puzzled about why dogs that are known to pull on the leash, such as Labradors, Retrievers and German Shepherds, have such a high rates of thyroid gland issues. Over the years, I have searched for the best way of making dogs safe without the risk that a collar brings. If your dog is a “puller”, and you think that he may be suffering back or neck injury, I suggest you have him examined. Instead of using collars to control your dog, use it for attaching a tag with your phone number and address in case your best friend gets lost. I also hope that whenever you see a dog pulling and choking on the collar you will not be afraid to speak up, and make his human more aware of the problems this can cause.
I generally like to stay low profile and focus on helping you and your dogs. However, the reason why I decided to dive into the turbulent waters of healthcare bylaws and policies is that I strongly believe in the freedom of your choice when it comes to animal healthcare. Urinary tract and especially bladder infections are relatively common, especially in female dogs. It is my experience that dogs that are fed dehydrated processed food are most vulnerable because kibble causes acidic pH. My plan here is to share with you why I believe that collar injuries make dogs sick and what the alternatives are. Laryngeal paralysis can be one of the most distressing conditions for the affected dog and his or her guardian. Most people would agree that living with dogs has only one flaw and that is that their lives are too short and it is so hard to get over losing them.

If you are confused about the title of this blog, read on because you are about the learn something that may extend your dog’s life by years. This blog explains all you need to know about flatulence in dogs and what to do about it without the use of dugs and chemicals. Many dogs lick their paws and many of them are misdiagnosed and treated for the wrong problem. In a day or two, it will develop so your dog is waking you up at night because of constant coughing.
I read that while the dog is sick and everything's swollen up, any pulling or pressure on the throat with a regular collar could injure his trachea. Hundreds of people seek medical care on a weekly basis for accidents involving a dog tripping them.
Which technique I choose to employ can be based on the breed, age, previous training, temperament of the individual dog and the abilities of the human all factor into the equation.  The one constant that everyone must understand from the get-go is that all dogs are genetically equipped with an instinct behaviorists refer to as opposition reflex. Pulling the leash often causes an abnormal sensation (pins and needles sensation) in the feet and dogs simply try to lick their feet not knowing what better to do. Ideally choose a harness that has at least one attachment to the leash in the front portion where the neck connects to the torso – the chest opening. My plan today is to share with you a few thoughts on how dogs can help us solve environmental issues and health care.
The trip was challenging especially in Myanmar (formerly Burma), because the lives of people and dogs is far from easy.
My dog, Juno, used to have her paws get inflamed and infected, she had stomach issues and hot spots.
As soon as I arrived at the parking lot and let Skai out of the car, I noticed a man with a young German shepherd on the leash. My experience is that pulling decreases the energy and lymphatic flow to the head, which leads to ear and eye conditions.
I have seen many so-called “allergic dogs” or chronically lame dogs healing completely after they were put on a special harness.
Please read my blog about my journey and why I think we may have a solution to dog homelessness. Just read on and learn how you can help your dog without drugs, chemicals, do it for less and without side-effects.
If our smaller dogs get in the way they can be stepped on, or fallen on top of,  resulting in injuries to your canine.  The quintessential American image of walking a dog is something we all desire, but all too frequently find, instead, that walking the dog is a chore fraught with conflict instead.
Walk at a rapid pace, turn directions frequently and, above all, keep that leash dangling at his neck rather than tight. Now, take a deep breath, squeeze and pull back with all your force keeping your thumbs connected. If you have not fainted by now and are still reading these lines, I am sure the sensation was not comfortable.

My clients are often perplexed when all the ear and eye problems disappear after switching their dog from a collar to the right front clip harness. Some dogs may get such severe whiplash like injuries from being “jerked around” that they may suffer severe neck misalignment. If your dog gets injured, I caution you about using NSAID painkillers such as meloxicam, Despite them being widely used, they suppress pain but also suppress the natural course of inflammatory and healing response. The most common side-effects are gastro-intestinal ulcers, indigestion, and kidney damage, to name a few. I thought the same until dogs, who are my patients, taught me a little more about this delicious, beautifully colored vegetable. The dog digs in and resists the action which leads the human to believe the dog is being stubborn.
Perhaps you never thought of it but this is how many dogs feel when they are on the leash. If you are still keen to continue with this experiment, put a choke chain around your neck and attach it to a leash.
He was determined to prevent his dog from coming closer to us by yanking and jerking harshly on the leash that was attached to a choke chain. The destruction of the thyroid gland cells leads to the deficit of thyroid hormone – hypothyroidism. The thyroid gland governs the metabolism of every cell, and its absence can have very severe consequences.
In an effort to have control during walks we tighten up the leash which engages a dog’s opposition reflex and causes him to pull even harder. Make sure that your dog’s harness is the right fit and follow the maker’s instructions carefully. 3.
Make sure to praise whenever he is in that magic spot next to your left leg so that he learns being there is super fun and gets him rewards. Your dog’s neck may be put out of alignment and the trauma could lead to numerous other problems."“Thank you for telling me, I will keep it in mind,” the man replied. If your dogs is one of those types that takes you for a walk flailing behind, make sure you are reading the following lines.
In other words, consider the harness and the leash permanently attached and remove them together to prevent skin abrasions and muscle bruising when your dog is running off leash 4. Once the you understand the opposition reflex you can begin teaching your dog that being polite and staying by your side on walks will earn him bountiful rewards! Use your voice, body language and treats to be more exciting than all the sounds and stimuli your dog sees outside.  Pretty soon you will be going on walks and both of you will be enjoying the time together without coughing, choking or power struggles!
