Like the Newfoundland, the Portuguese Water Dog’s webbed feet are built for swimming, but the breed isn’t as bulky or wooly as the Newfoundland. I don't think APBTs are supposed to have webbing, but I haven't found anything that says it's a fault.
So I took another gander at Bugs feet, and I must admit his webbing goes almost to the ends of his toes!!!
My dogs toes are webbed a little bit, it's also a black mouth cur trait, which is exactly what he looks and acts like. Ya, some dogs are more webbed then others, I really don't get the "this breed" because of webbed toes though, my Border Collie Happy does not have fully webbed toes but my other BC Misty DID have fully webbed toes. Ha, I got curious and checked Gem and Gyp's toes, making a guess that Gypsy's would be fully webbed because she is a super strong swimmer(like she can and has outswam working water retrievers both in speed and stamina) NOPE! If you’ve ever taken a closer look at your dogs feet, you’ll notice that they have lots of features that make them unique. European hunting dogs worked for Europe, but in the American South the terrain was very different.
Topics range from dog food, supplements and raw diets to spaying and neutering, ear cropping, worms, fleas and ticks, separation anxiety, allergies, skin issues and more.
Because I've seen dogs with feet that look like human toes, where the skin is connected at the base of each toe.

From overall size to nail length to toe placement, your pups paws are the product of a long line of ancestors. They were very carefully mixed with other breeds to have a thick coat, a great nose, and a loyal disposition.

Like, "I think she's part lab because she has webbed toes." Um, she's a dog, all dogs have webbed toes. One of the things you may not have looked for before is whether or not your dog has webbed feet.
And, of course, they have thick, webbed paws and the longest toes of any breed that let them tear through the water. I've never seen any dog with toes that were significantly more or less webbed than other dogs. Webbed feet aren’t all that uncommon in dogs, and they’ve intentionally been bred into some pups. They also use those paws to swim in a unique way, with a down-and-out motion, rather than an ordinary dog paddle.
They’re fearless, able to intimidate alligators, black bears, or cougars, and relentless so they can keep raccoons in trees until a hunter arrives.

They also had webbed feet, which let them doggedly pursue their prey, even through the swamps.
Their feet may be small, but the webbing in their toes helps them move lots of dirt, letting them dig around for all sorts of small game. You may recognize them from the book Where the Red Fern Grows, which probably made you cry unless you have a heart of stone.
They were also used in the American West to hunt prairie dogs, which were pests for farmers.
