VSS SharePoint

Before using the VSS SharePoint Backup Plugin (data source) we would suggest setting up your environment as described in the MSDN article: Using a VSS Requestor with SharePoint Foundation

Backup

The following services should be started prior to the backup running:

SharePoint Administration

SharePoint Foundation Search V14

SharePoint Timer

SharePoint Server Search (if SharePoint Server is installed)

Restore

The following services should be started prior to restoration:

SharePoint VSS Writer

Volume Shadow Copy

SharePoint Tracing

With the following services stopped:

SharePoint Administration

SharePoint Foundation Search V14

SharePoint Timer

SharePoint Server Search (if SharePoint Server is installed)

Where the whole farm is to be restored, the SharePoint Foundation and Internet Information Server (IIS) services must be shutdown.

If only selected Web applications or other components are being restored, the Web applications must be shutdown and the components may not be in use during the restoration.
