Install the Windows SNMP Agent
Windows NT
- Right click Network Neighborhood icon on the Desktop.
- Properties.
- Services.
- Add
- From the Network Service list select SNMP Service
You may be prompted to insert the Operating System disc to complete the installation
Windows 2000/2003/XP
- Via Control Panel
- Select Add or Remove Programs
- Click Add/Remove Windows Components
- Locate Management and Monitoring Tools
- Details
- Select and enable the tick box of Simple Network Management Protocol or SNMP feature
You may be prompted to insert the Operating System disc to complete the installation
Windows 2008/Vista
- Via Control Panel
- Click on Programs
- Click Turn Windows features on or off
- Locate SNMP feature
You may be prompted to insert the Operating System disc to complete the installation
The Windows SNMP agent installs as a service and the Services console (Start/Run/services.msc) may be used to verify that the installation has completed successfully as well as start the SNMP service if required.
Windows does not apply a community string by default to the SNMP service and this is discussed in the following section Enable the SNMP Service.
