Fatty acid signature analysis is a technique used to examine the feeding habits of free-ranging polar bears. Researchers can often identify more than 70 different fatty acids in the fat stores of marine organisms like polar bears. Because fatty acid stores are strongly influenced by diet, differences in fatty acid signatures among polar bears reflect differences in foraging habits.
Polar bears, like other mammalian carnivores, also synthesize their own fatty acids in addition to obtaining them through the diet.
The fatty acid profile of an individual polar bear can be readily determined from a small tissue biopsy taken through the skin of an immobilized bear (see pictures to the right). In addition to using fatty acid signatures to study polar bear diets, some unusual non-methylene interrupted fatty acids have been identified in a few species of polar bear prey.
Fatty acid signature analysis will be a valuable tool for monitoring future changes in polar bear foraging. Animal fats (which are also called lipids) are primarily in the form of triacylglycerols: three fatty acid molecules attached to a glycerol backbone (upper right).
Most of these compounds will be present in all of the available foods so we may not be able to determine where any individual fatty acid originated in the diet. Further, some ingested fatty acids will be preferentially utilized for energy whereas other fatty acids will be directly stored without modification.
These fatty acids are synthesized by marine invertebrates and are most abundant in those marine mammals that feed on benthic invertebrates: bearded seals (Erignathus barbatus) and walruses (Odobenus rosmarus). With the rapid environmental changes that have occurred in the Arctic and are predicted to continue, fatty acid analysis may allow researchers to identify shifts in food web structure and functioning that may otherwise be difficult to detect. By looking at the fatty acid composition of a polar bear’s fat, and comparing it to its potential prey, we can make some inferences about what that bear has eaten. Each fatty acid is made up of a long hydrocarbon chain that contains a variable number of double bonds.

However, prey species usually differ in their relative proportions of various fatty acids (see right figure).
The end result of these metabolic processes is that the fatty acid signature of a polar bear will never exactly match its dietary composition. These unusual fatty acid biomarkers have been used to identify large, adult male polar bears as the primary predators of large pinnipeds (Thiemann et al. Using fatty acid signatures to study bear foraging: technical considerations and future applications. Calibration coefficients are determined by comparing the fatty acid profile of the consumer with that of its controlled diet. Differences in these two profiles are the result of specific metabolic processes and correction factors can be applied to the fatty acid data collected from free-ranging polar bears.
For unusual non-methylene-interrupted fatty acids (see below) the positions of each double bond must be given. Unusual fatty acid biomarkers reveal age- and sex-specific foraging in polar bears (Ursus maritimus). This can occur from an acid producing diet, and poor assimilation of nutrients.Rick's comments "Healthy blood cells will be perfectly round, nice and dark with a glowing halo around them. Every cell in the body has a double membrane of fat made up of phospholipids, a two layer membrane. The acids can disentegrate the cell membrane as well as when your body ferments sugar, alcohol is the byproduct, and alcohol can easily melt the cell membrane.""Whatever is happening in the blood cells is happening to the rest of the body.
The other arrow is free-floating yeast, and you can see there is quite a bit of it in the blood. The benefits of this water are it's antioxidant properties which nullify free radical scavengers, plus the extra oxygen in the water is supposed to give energy and boost alertness and memory.Candida detox Next on the plate is to tackle the candida with capyrilic acid and olive leaf extract (for about 2 months). The glutamine assists in strengthening the gut wall and helps patch any holes left by the yeast (which could lead to leaky gut syndrome and the problems it leads to, such as food allergies and parasites) Respiration "The biggest acid you make everyday is carbonic acid.

Every cell in your body is producing carbon dioxide from the bottom of your feet to the top of your head that is also surrounded by water and the carbon dioxide plus water makes carbonic acid, that's a very simple thing to keep in mind. By looking for acid based balance the amount of acid produced per day must be equal to the amount excreted or nutralized per day. The thing that is happening is, if your body can't neutralize or eliminate the acid you stay at that level, you can't go beyond that level of health.
It's the greatest tool you have and it's free."Alkalizing with baking soda "The methods of getting rid of acidity from the body are respiration, perspiration, defecation and urination. When you take the chia seed and the flax seeds which are 28% protein 40-50% omega 3 fatty acids, that's very little carbohydrate there.
The greens are 100% carbohydrate and when you mix them together, now you have carbs that burn like paper and you've got fats and oils, with proteins that don't really burn. The fats and oils are like the charcoal—now you have a sustained burn going on and then you don't ferment the sugars because the coal, the fatty acids, are there. Chia is a great natural source of antioxidants, including chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, myricetin, quercetin and flavonols.• Full of Important Nutrients. Since essential amino acids are not produced by the body, it's important to get amino acids from nutrient-rich sources like chia seeds.
