Make your images pinable for Pinterest
The social network that has had great success with women is Pinterest. The ability to use it as a mood boards for ideas on landscaping your garden, decorating your house, cooking, photography and fashion has lead to its success. If your are selling products aimed at a female clientele then Pinterest must be one of your major social media marketing tools. If you sell products that are purchased mainly by men then the normal advice has been to ignore Pinterest and concentrate your efforts on twitter, Google+ or facebook. Who said Pinterest was just for women. Yes more women use it than men but that does not mean there are no men using it. Just look at the image below. There are a lot of different fly fishermen using Pinterest. If you use the search box you will see that every hobby enjoyed by men is covered by its users. Make sure that all the photographs on your website are pinable. The official maximum horizontal width is 554 pixels. There is no length maximum. It has been found that the best size is 600 x 800 as it resizes very well without distortion. Use keywords with dashes between each word when naming a photograph. Many websites have now installed the "Pin it" button near their images to help Pinterest users quickly pin images they like of your products to their own Pinterest boards. It will help them come back to your website once they have made the decision to buy. It will also enable them to easily show your products to their friends. The normal button enables you add a description of your product and automatically adds the link back to your website on the Pinterest users own page. There is an advanced button called a "rich pin" where you can add more product details like price and dimensions.
