Sponsorship can help with Link Building

Stop stop stop. Do not click the next page button to skip this page. You do not have to spend cash when you sponsor a charity, non-profit organization or an event. If you have the spare cash and want to offer a financial gift then that is great. There could also be a tax benefit for you. Every one wins, but many small business website owners do not have any spare cash. What they can do is volunteer their time, services or products. Most charities and events have a website where they like to thank their sponsors. This is where you get your reward for helping them. A one way link back to your website will help you.

Think about sponsorhip as a form of link building

When you help other people, offer to promote their website, products and services on social media to all your followers and friends. They may do the same for you and add a link to your website on their website. Give people a lending hand with their business. Do you have an expertise? Give it freely and see what response you get. Other people who are just beginning or are struggling really appreciate the help they get from others who have already dealt with the same issue they are facing.

help other people by promoting their site in social media if they give you a link

Think out of the box. Do something unusual so you stand out from your competition. You may get good press coverage. If they put a link to your website you will not get any Google juice because all newspapers links are shown as No Follow. What hopefully will happen is that the newspaper's readers, whether online or those reading the paper version, my like what they see and use their social media to tell their followers and friends. Take for example what the charity Oxfam did. A music festival was scheduled for the weekend so they photographed teenagers who had purchased second hand clothing from their local store to wear at the festival. They informed the fashion editors on different newspapers who loved the idea and wrote articles about these girls and used the photographs. Teenagers reading this news report quickly told their friend using facebook, Pinterest and Twitter. Some of these added links on their fashion blogs. This resulted in Oxfam reporting more sales of clothing and their website moving up in the search engine result page position for some fashion keyword terms.

think out of the box to get press coverage

I know of a computer repair company that obtained links by offering their services for free to local churches, schools and non-profit organizations. They kept computers up to date, virus free and in a fast working condition. The people they helped added the company's website link to their website and also posted about their work on Social media. This helped with sales as school children's parents, church congregations and non profit organization clients became aware of the company's charitable activities. An electrical firm offered their skills free of charge to the elderly and infirm via a charity that cares for older people in the local community. Not only did they get a link on the charity's website but they also received positive press coverage.

At Christmas a transport logistics company offered the free use of one of its flat backed lorries and a driver to transport the local Lion/Roundtable lodge's Father Christmas sledge around the cities streets as the volunteers collected money for charity, after their normal vehicle's gearbox seized up. Many of the volunteers were local business people and they reported this good Samaritan help on their company websites and social media posts with links. The local newspaper also ran an article with links to the transport companies website.
