RELEASED 03/03/2016
National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS)
2013 Public Data Release (PDR)

This is the initial release of the 2014 NFIRS PDR database tables.

***NOTE*** ***FORMAT CHANGE***:
The NFIRS PDR file format has changed starting with the 2012 data year
from dbase table files to tables that are delimited text files. These
tables are essentially CSV files. Field are separated by the "^"
character and text fields are encoded by double quotes. Note that
These files can be opened directly in MS Excel but if the row count
exceeds the Excel number of rows limitation, some of the data will
be truncated. Most database and statistical tools support loading of
this new delimited text format. Note that the format of the tables
and the data fields remains the same as previously.

QUALITY CONTROL NOTES:
Please see the "2014 NFIRS Data Quality Notes_03-02-2016.pdf" file
included in this release.

OTHER NOTES:
The NFIRS Structure Fire Cause codes are now included as a new table:
"causes.txt". It may be matched with the other tables on the NFIRS key.
Documentation is included in the "fire_cause_categories.pdf" file.

A guide to analyzing the NFIRS data is included here. The file is:
"NFIRS 5.0 Fire Data Analysis Guidelines and Issues.pdf".

NOTE: Due to the size of the 2014 data, only the fire and
hazardous conditions incidents are included in these data tables.
The EMS table contains only EMS incidents that were associated with fires or
hazardous conditions.

NOTE: Due to physical database size limitations, a change to the NFIRS PDR
schema was required starting with the 2002 release. Specifically, the
BasicIncident table was split into two tables. Incident address
information previously in the BasicIncident table now resides in the table
named IncidentAddress.

Please see the included documentation for specifics on the PDR schema.

Please see the included NFIRS Complete Reference Guide (CRG) for answers to
questions about code descriptions and field definitions.
