Beetroot Thoran Recipe – While growing up, I hated the sight of beetroot in my food, except for the recipe in this post and beetroot halwa. Kerala food is healthy, quick to make with minimal ingredients, at least a majority of traditional food that I have learnt to make. The preparation process appears daunting but is pretty simple when you get down to making it.
Idiyappam is a traditional dish for breakfast from cuisine of Kerala.Idiyappam recipe is prepared with Idiyappam maker and served with either Stew or Curry.


In Kerala, people have Rava Uppumavu with Banana and Sugar, Cheru Payru (Green Gram) Curry, Kadala (Bengal Gram) Curry and so on. I absolutely relish the traditional food recipes of Kerala especially their breakfast fare like Idiyappam, Puttu and Appam.
Appam recipe uses minimal ingredients, simple to make and usually served with a range of sides like vegetable stew or chicken stew, sweetened coconut milk, Kerala egg cury, egg roast, korma, chutney and kadala curry. I have prepared appam recipe with both yeast as well as cooked appam batter and I prefer the latter in terms of flavor. I served Appam with Kerala style vegetable stew and egg roast, the recipes of which I will post tomorrow. I learnt how to make a few Kerala style recipes that I have since been preparing for my family.

In Kerala, Idiyappam rice flour is easily available unlike in other states where its difficult to find. I used home made rice flour and served Idiyappam with Kerala Egg Curry, the recipe of which I will post tomorrow.
