How To Cook The Perfect White Basmati (Indian Rice)   Long grain Indian Basmati rice is a little different from the typical white rice. Here’s another deliciously easy and affordable fat free recipe that you and your family will love. Fat free vegan cooking is really easy, once you know how to skip the oil and prepare delicious home cooked meals that taste just as good if not better without the extra grease and calories.
When I snack, I try to stick to fresh fruits and vegetables, but sometimes I want something with crunch, not the moist crunch of a carrot but the carb-filled crunch of a potato chip. My taste in snacks runs from the very simple (baked tortilla chips) to the unusual (roasted okra). My favorite spur-of-the-moment snack is simple: rinsed, canned chickpeas sprinkled with Creole seasoning. You can use different spices in both of these recipes or leave out the seasoning altogether. This week I finally got around to trying a healthy snack that so many bloggers have said that they love.
You'll keep up to date with new recipes and old ones you might have forgotten when you subscribe to NewsBites, the new FatFree Vegan newsletter. Thanks for all thw wonderful snack ideas , shall try them except for the kale chips, just doesn’t appeal to me either. I started making microwave potato chips a few years ago after 28 Cooks posted a recipe for them — soo, sooo good.
My favorite snacks are probably sliced veggies (carrot, cucumber, turnip, swede, cauliflower, bell pepper etc) with a dip. You’ve known it for a long that the mirror never lies and the unsightly folds on your stomach, the waistband rolls, the armpit curls and the love handles can no longer be labeled puppy fat-oh no, you certainly have no such excuse. These cannot be wished away.

The usual meals, particularly in India, in any part of the country is rich in fats, spices and an overload of carbohydrates which can come from idlis, plain, rice, khichdi(which we err to imagine as low calorie) and rotis or parathas. Here is the plan I’ve worked out for you as each day will have three main meals and two snack time making it total up to five. Breakfast: Tomatoes, beans, cucumber and moong sprouts tossed with some chat masala and one cup fat free milk. Evening snack: A few cucumber slices with mint chutney that does not contain any sugars added to sweeten it.
Dinner: Tofu which is easily available and a perfect substitute for cottage cheese tossed with some olive oil, coriander leaves, adrop of sour cream or fat free yogurt, salt and pepper is great as a salad. Evening snack: Boil some chana and sprinkle some chat masala, chopped onions and green chilies and see how tasty this snack could be. Mid morning snack-I’d keep having some more almonds and pistachios for getting my dose of good fats and essential nutrients.
Mid morning snack: Another chilla with a filling of spicy dry chutney made with dry red chillies and garlic and a few drops of lemon juice. Evening snack: Crispy sticks of cucumber dipped in salsa sauce-indulge in not more than four sticks of cucumber. Mid morning snack: cauliflower fritters– use besan for dipping the flowerets and then frying lightly in olive oil. Lunch: ‘Kadhi’ made with low fat buttermilk instead of curd and then given the tempering of spices.
Evening snack: Microwave two papads( they are crispy and crunchy like they have been fried) and top it with chopped onions and tomatoes and a sprinkle of chat masala. Snacks are needed to satiate the hungry soul, but it's also important to watch your weight and keep your oil intake to the bare minimum.

It’s inspired from a delicious Indian soup from a local restaurant we like, and I tried to make my own version at home. Like many Indian foods the names of dishes are phonetic so often you will see similar spellings of dal such as dhal or dahl.
I want to try all these snacks, I haven’t had potato chips in a long time and your chickpeas look fantastic!
I am CONSTANTLY looking for healthy things to snack on, but usually rely on store bought rice crackers. I have been looking for new snacks since school started and I can’t wait to try the microwave potato chips.
I have been looking for GOOD-TASTING and nutritious recipes….this is like a gold mine!! And if all of these are too much to remember, a good friend of mine who is of Indian origin says she followed this simple rule that has helped her lose pounds and keep them off: No Sweet, No Rice! Don't worry; this doesn't mean that you have to say goodbye to those fried snacks that you love so much. We've got you some easy, fried vegetarian snack recipes that are low on the calories but high on taste.
Maybe I’ll have to sneak kale into a recipe one of these days and say it’s spinach, ha!
