Applying Science to Expose the Myths and Brainwashing in the Big Bang Theory, Autoimmune Diseases, IBD, Ketosis, Diet, Nutrition, Dietary Fiber, Carbohydrates, Saturated Fats, Red Meat, Healing, Health, Whole Grains, and the Bible. The proper diet required to prevent harsh autoimmune reactions is generally not recognized by gastroenterologists (physicians who specialize in digestive disorders) who continue to recommend dietary fiber that my research revealed to be the main culprit.
It has now been 60 days since I started the autoimmune paleo protocol (AIP) and I am happy to report that over the last 30 days I have begun reintroducing foods, mostly with success. Typically, a paleo autoimmune protocol diet excludes eggs, nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants), seeds, and nuts, in addition to the grains, legumes, and dairy that a standard paleo diet avoids. In The Autoimmune Solution, I explain how genetics only accounts for about 25% of your risk for developing an autoimmune disease. In The Autoimmune Solution, I walk you through the details of my four-step approach to healing the gut.
I outline my entire 30-day plan to prevent and reverse the full spectrum of inflammatory symptoms and diseases in The Autoimmune Solution. Next week, I’ll explain how diet can affect your risk for autoimmune disease with The Autoimmune Solution Pillar II: Get rid of gluten, grains, and legumes. Whether you or someone in your family is one of the 50 million Americans suffering from fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, or another autoimmune disorder, there is hope for prevention and even reversal of the debilitating symptoms that accompany these conditions.
Hi Amanda, if you have any kind of autoimmune disease it’s safe to assume your gut is leaky already.
Hi Jenny, not all of the recipes on my blog are autoimmune protocol friendly, so when in doubt, follow the guidelines in my book. My book is for people with autoimmune diseases, and I find that they cause reactions in many people with inflammatory issues. Although the diet promoted on the message board provided some help for the sufferers, it was severely deficient.
Many diseases can be reversed or placed into remission by adopting my recommendations for diet, supplements, and standard medical support.
During these unsuccessful attempts, I dove headfirst into an intense elimination diet that deserves much more time and attention than I was giving it.

Once significant improvement in the autoimmune disease have occurred (ideally, complete remission), one can begin reintroducing foods one at a time. Experts recommend reintroducing the foods that are least likely to cause a reaction first. My treatment approach, The Myers Way®, is about preventing and reversing autoimmunity by getting to the root rather than managing the symptoms. I’ve highlighted the steps below, but they are outlined in much greater detail in The Autoimmune Solution. The Autoimmune Solution is my step-by-step approach that restores the body to its natural healthy state in 30 days by eliminating toxic foods, introducing restorative ingredients, and identifying environmental toxins.
I have tried multiple times, but have been unable to sustain it because I felt so horrible when on a grain free diet.
Of course it is going to vary from person to person, but in general I do not recommend nuts and seeds for those with autoimmune disease. Hence, many gastroenterologists have given up recommending dietary changes to their patients and rely solely on drugs, which are intended to destroy the immune system rather than stop the offenders -- fiber and carbohydrates. Dietary fiber is a sinister invader of the colon, not the panacea of health promoted in other books, websites, universities, and government health departments.
I strongly recommend that you seek medical care from a physician who truly understands the connection between diet and health. The autoimmune protocol recommends complying 100% to the protocol for 6-8 weeks before beginning the reintroduction phase. I was prepared to back down and remove them from my diet immediately, but I was very thankful to discover that I could eat them without problem.
Some have already racked up a collection of autoimmune diagnoses only to find themselves still searching for options. There are five environmental factors in particular that can put you on the autoimmune spectrum or push you over the edge into full blown autoimmune disease: an unhealthy gut, poor diet, toxins, infections, and stress.
Without a healthy immune system, you’re open to infections, inflammation, and autoimmune disease.
In The Autoimmune Solution, I explain in depth how diet, toxins, medications, infections, and stress can cause these tight junctions to break apart.

There are quizzes in The Autoimmune Solution that will help you determine whether or not you could have one or more of these infections.
That’s why I made it the first pillar in The Autoimmune Solution–healing your gut is the first step toward regaining your health. In addition to feeling even worse than before, a completely grain free diet also causes me to have symptoms of interstitial cystitis. Most of the foods you include in the 30-day plan include high FODMAPS foods such as broccoli, kale, and apples – all of which are severely limited on the low FODMAPS diet. I think the best thing to do would be to set up a consultation with my dietitian, who could come up with a plan that is more specific for you! These three or four people restricted their diets enough to enjoy a reasonable remission from Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. It is so important to understand why this protocol has worked to put so many autoimmune sufferers into remission, because it provides assurance that the journey is worth it. Instagram is full of autoimmune protocol hashtags, and many of the ‘grammers have dedicated websites detailing their trials with the protocol. The diet promoted by the board's founder was wrong, and the remaining 99.6% continued to suffer. Each time I started the diet, I would cave within the first couple days as the thought of complying 100% for up to two months was just too overwhelming.
I would like to begin your plan as soon as possible, however, with the demands of my job along with all these symptoms, my concern is that when I begin the supplements and diet change that the symptoms will get a lot worse making it extremely hard for me to function and get through the day due to die-off, detox, etc.
