Popcorn Art

What you need:

  • Popcorn
  • Hot air popper
  • Pencil
  • White drawing paper
  • Newspaper
  • Paper cups, one for each color you want to use
  • Food coloring
  • Slotted spoon
  • Paper towels
  • Liquid white glue

What to do:

  1. Pop the corn in the hot air popper and let it cool.
  2. Draw a simple design (like a tree) on a sheet of paper.
  3. Put newspaper down in the area in which you are working. Put water in the cups and add a different food coloring to each cup.
  4. Add a few pieces of popped corn in a cup with colored water. Stir them around and quickly remove with a slotted spoon, dropping the pieces of colored corn onto the newspaper to dry. Don’t leave the corn in the water more than a few seconds or it will become too soggy.
  5. Let the colored popcorn dry completely. You could put them in the sun to speed the drying if you want.
  6. When the colored popcorn is dry and you are ready to continue, fill an area of your design with a good layer of liquid white glue. Arrange pieces of the colored popcorn on the glue as you like. Only work with one small area at a time, so the glue doesn’t dry out before you stick colored popcorn into it.
  7. Continue in this way until your design is finished. Allow to dry before holding upright.
