Creating the “Write” Task: Encouraging Explanatory Writing in the Elementary Math Classroom

Description

Students are often asked to verbally explain their thinking in mathematics class. How can writing be used to add permanence to these explanations? Join us in identifying and developing tasks that will position students to explain their mathematical thinking in writing. Participants will also come away with considerations for assessing this writing.
