Frank Tracz, professor of music and the university’s director of bands, received the award Friday at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago. Tracz was elected to the elite American Bandmasters Association in 2012 and he received the Tau Beta Sigma National Band Honorary Sorority’s Paula Crider Award in 2011. He graduated from KU with a Bachelor of Science in Business in 1973 and returned to KU for a visit on September 24, 2012. This structure was considered the largest educational building in the United States at the time of its completion, so it was considered quite the attraction. Grant's visit, in April 1873, included a tour of the recently opened University Hall (old Fraser Hall). The Hall was purported to be the largest educational building in the United States at the time of its construction.
