The Seminoles threatened in the top of the first with back-to-back singles through the right side by Justin Gonzalez and D.J.
Florida State would threaten once again in the third, but Young displayed impressive poise and worked his way out of the jam.
Justin Gonzalez followed with his team-leading 27th walk of the season to load the bases with no outs.
The Gators took some of the momentum built by the Seminoles and utilized it for their own benefit in the bottom of the third, as Tobias jumped on the first pitch he saw from Peter Miller, sending the ball into the left-field bleachers for his first home run of the season, giving the Gators the early 1-0 lead. Young departed in the fourth after surrendering a base hit to Jose Brizuela (the third infield hit of the evening against Young), prompting head coach Kevin O’Sullivan to bring in Aaron Rhodes, who would close out the inning with relative ease, as the right-hander sat down Sansone, DeLuzio, and De La Calle in order. All would be quiet until the top of the sixth when Jose Brizuela launched a 2-1 pitch from Rhodes off the bottom of the scoreboard in right for his first homer of the season, tying the game at 1-1.
Once again, Florida responded with momentum of their own, as Martin led off the bottom of the sixth with a double to right. Taylor Gushue followed with a sac fly to deep right, allowing Bader to score from third and giving the Gators the 3-1 lead.
Florida threatened in the bottom of the eighth with runners on the corners, following a fielder’s choice to third by Bader that would advance Buddy Reed over to third.
Bobby Poyner would close out the game, retiring all nine batters he faced (Poyner entered the seventh and registered three consecutive 1-2-3 innings).
In all, Poyner tossed 3.0 perfect innings of relief, fanning one batter in the process en route to his first career save. Pitching was truly the name of the game for the Gators as Young tossed 3.0 scoreless innings, striking out two and surrendering just one free pass. Rhodes followed with 3.0 innings of his own, giving up the lone run of the game on three hits, while fanning four and giving up not a single free pass. From here, the Gators travel to College Station this weekend to face the Texas A&M Aggies on the road for their second straight weekend of SEC play. Runnin’ with the RebelsFor the first time since 1961, Florida State will meet Ole Miss on the football field. The Rebels, the only team to beat national champion Alabama in 2015, just polished off a 10-3 season with a 48-20 romp over Oklahoma State in the Sugar Bowl. Louisville bounced back from an 0-3 start to finish 8-5 on the season, and USF won seven of its last eight regular season games before falling to Western Kentucky in the Miami Beach Bowl. Blue OctoberThe latest turn in the ACC’s divisional schedule rotation means the Seminoles get a rare chance to host the North Carolina Tar Heels.
So we meet againAfter UNC, FSU will head south for what should be a memorable meeting with coach Mark Richt and the Miami Hurricanes.
Richt, who served as an FSU assistant from 1990-2000, was hired by his alma mater earlier this year.
For the last seven years, the math in the ACC Atlantic has been simple: Whichever team wins the FSU-Clemson game wins the division.
The Tigers snapped a three-game losing streak to FSU last year, but they haven’t won in Tallahassee since 2006.
Friday Night Lights in TallahasseeFlorida State visited Boston College for a Friday game in 2015, and the Eagles are set to return the favor.
The Veterans Day contest will also serve as a perfect time for FSU’s annual Military Appreciation Day. Michigan took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning in Game 1 as a leadoff single set up a two-run home run with one out.
After Ocasio relieved starter Delanie Gourley to begin the fourth inning, the Orange and Blue tied the game in the fifth when Castro drew a one-out walk and pinch-runner Justine McLean scored from first on an RBI double by Little. Florida got on the board quickly in Game 2 against the Spartans as Stewart led off with a walk before coming home on an RBI single by Castro. Another three-spot went up for the Gators in the fourth thanks to two more run-scoring two-baggers, a two-run double from Haeger to right-center and an RBI double from Kayli Kvistad to left-center.
The Arkansas Razorbacks baseball team will commence their 2014 season with a three-game series at home against Appalachian State from February 14-16, which will kick-start a 10-game home stand that will be highlighted by a three-game set against South Alabama.
The Razorbacks will then travel to Berkeley, California for the Cal Baseball Classic from March 7-9, where they will face off against San Francisco, Tulane, and California. The Razorbacks will face a challenging schedule in 2014, particularly against fellow SEC competition. Going forward, the Razorbacks will look to reverse last season’s result and move closer to Omaha, much like they did in 2012. In terms of pitching, the Razorbacks will have to deal with the losses of Ryne Stanek, Barrett Astin, and Randall Fant.
Joining Poche in the rotation is Chris Oliver, who has spent the past two seasons in the bullpen. The Razorbacks have lost some key pieces and are coming off of a season that turned out less than what they originally bargained for, but expect Arkansas to fight back and make a splash at a potential Omaha run. College football season is under way and proof of the excitement is bouncing on the sidelines with chants and dances to keep the crowd alive throughout the game – win or lose. Bobby Wilder hasn't just taken Old Dominion from a school without a football program to a perennial Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) national championship contender in a few short years.
The Hokies lead the all-time series with 7 wins to the Panthers' 4, but Pitt has won the previous four contests. Pitt and Virginia Tech last met on September 15, 2012 in a 35-17 Panthers' win at Heinz Field. Entering his 27th season at the helm of the Virginia Tech Football Program, Frank Beamer has come to define the measure of success in college football - winning. After being named Second-Team All-ACC in 2011, Virginia Tech senior quarterback Logan Thomas saw his performance drop off in 2012.

Enter Scot Loeffler; Frank Beamer's newly appointed offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

If you are looking for tailgating ideas and information on the tailgate party lifestyle, you have come to the right place. Washington RedskinsWP Cumulus Flash tag cloud by Roy Tanck requires Flash Player 9 or better. Young surrendered a base hit to Danny De La Calle to open the inning, a hard hit grounder up the middle that Richie Martin fielded, but was unable to pivot and make the throw to first in time.
After a sac bunt from Casey Turgeon moved Martin over to third, Harrison Bader stepped in the box and drilled the first pitch he saw off the bottom of the wall in right, legging out a triple and plating Martin in the process for the outright 2-1 lead. 2 ranked team in the country to just one run is quite the achievement, especially an offense that came into the game having seven starting position players with RBI totals either greater or equal to your highest individual total. The Gators will face the Seminoles once again the following Tuesday before readying themselves for a three-game set against the LSU Tigers at home. He’s an avid fan and scholar of the game, who although has a place in his heart for his Gators, is as objective as they come. The Orlando Citrus Bowl will host the Seminoles and Rebels for a season-opening, nationally televised game that could jumpstart a run to the College Football Playoff for the winner.
But they also must contend with the losses of several key players, including lineman Laremy Tunsil, receiver Laquon Treadwell and defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche. After opening the season in Orlando, FSU has one home game against Charleston Southern before hitting the road for back-to-back games at Louisville and South Florida. And although the game isn’t on the traditional Saturday, the primetime kickoff, coupled with the Veterans Day holiday, should allow fans to begin making their travel arrangements now. But despite a rough end to the season, UF appears to be trending in the right direction under McElwain.
Florida loaded the bases on a Kelsey Stewart single, a fielder’s choice by Lauren Haeger and a hit-by-pitch from Bailey Castro.
UF took a 7-4 lead in the following inning when Kathlyn Medina walked and Aubree Munro reached on a Wolverine fielding error to set up a two-run double by Stewart. The Orange and Blue added three more runs in the third on an RBI groundout by Fuller and a two-run double to left field by Janell Wheaton.
In the fifth and final inning, Stewart led off with a two-base hit to left, setting up a walkoff home run to right-center from Merritt that sealed the 9-0 mercy-rule victory.
Stewart added a second two-base hit in Game 2, when she scored three times and stole two bases.
He began by coaching high school football for six years before deciding to pursue a career in journalism. From there, the Razorbacks will commence SEC play, as they will travel to Gainesville, Florida for a three-game series against Florida. At home, the Razorbacks will host the likes of South Carolina and Vanderbilt, while they will hit the road for matchups against Mississippi State, LSU, and Ole Miss.
However, inconsistent play throughout the season relegated the Razorbacks to a 39-21 (albeit solid) record and an early exit in the NCAA Tournament, as they fell to Kansas State in the Manhattan Regional. On offense, the outfield trio of Brian Anderson, Joe Serrano, and Tyler Spoon lead the way with veteran presence and seasoned bats, while senior Jake Wise will man the backstop with solid poise and leadership. However, one of the premier rising southpaw arms in the nation will lead the staff moving forward. Oliver is a talented right-hander who can masterfully work his mid-90s fastball and power slider by some of the best bats in the country. 19 matchup with Pitt as a huge opportunity to prove it can compete at the highest level of college football. Pass, pass and pass some more - Coming off a season in which he broke numerous FCS passing records and won the Walter Payton Award as the Best Player in the FCS, star junior quarterback Taylor Heinicke is undoubtedly the leader on the field for Old Dominion. Running game also packs a punch - Leading rusher Tyree Lee (864 yards) returns for his junior season as the Monarchs' starting tailback. Opportunistic defense concedes points - For as impressive as the ODU offense was last season, its defense struggled just as much at times, which ended up costing the team a chance at an FCS national championship. Don't underestimate the Monarchs - Having already faced teams like Florida State and Virginia Tech by this point in the season, Pitt can't allow itself to view Old Dominion as a lesser opponent. Get to Heinicke - There's no denying that Old Dominion's quarterback had a sensational season in 2012.
Control the ball on offense - Perhaps the best way to ensure that Old Dominion's star quarterback doesn't have a big day would be to keep him off the field as much as possible. Senior running back Ray Graham rushed for 94 yards in the contest, scoring two touchdowns on the ground and hauling in an 18-yard touchdown pass from Tino Sunseri. Under his leadership, the Hokies have appeared in 20 consecutive bowl games, won four ACC titles, five ACC Coastal Division crowns, three Big East championships, made six BCS appearances and earned a trip to the national title game. Loeffler, a Michigan graduate, has worked with the likes of Tom Brady, Tim Tebow, Brian Griese, Chad Henne, Drew Henson and John Navarre during his 15 year coaching career. Look for an improved Logan Thomas in 2013 - Never mind the fact that Thomas loses his top three receivers from last season, I look for him to be much improved in 2013.
Returner at running back - Though he didn't enter the 2012 season as Tech's starter, sophomore J.C.
The strength - The second ranked defense in the ACC last year doesn't lose much coming into the 2013 season.
Watch last year's tape - If there is a blueprint to flustering QB Logan Thomas, it can be found on last year's game tape. We noticed you are new here and encourage you to stay in touch by joining us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter for even more tailgating fun.Although lately it may seem as though I have become a Yankees fan, alas I have not.
Whether it is the latest tailgating gear reviews, a great new recipe or a funny list to make you smile, our goal is to inform and entertain the avid and the casual tailgater alike. 2 ranked Florida State Seminoles stopped by for a midweek match-up after sweeping NC State this past weekend. Florida’s starter for the evening, sophomore lefty Danny Young, was able to get Brett Knief to ground into the inning-ending 6-4-3 double play, quelling any threat that could have been.

After registering first-pitch strikes to nine consecutive batters to start the game, the streak ended with the next batter, as Josh Delph would slap a 1-1 pitch to right for a single.
Stewart stepped up to the plate with the opportunity to break the game wide open, but the sophomore slugger fouled out to third baseman Josh Tobias for the first out of the inning. This season is much more manageable – seven games before the open date and five games after. This year’s iteration of the rivalry should hold heavy implications, as FSU looks to beat Florida for the sixth time in seven meetings and further cement its place atop the state.
1-ranked University of Florida softball team equaled the best start to a season in school history with two wins on Thursday at the Judi Garman Classic, extending UF’s record to 24-0 on the year. Back-to-back RBI singles by Taylore Fuller and Briana Little scored Stewart and Haeger before Taylor Schwarz was hit by a pitch to force in Castro. The 2014 All-American made a heads-up play to score on the next play when Kirsti Merritt beat out a bunt single, extending the Gator advantage to three and producing the final margin. Although he figures to profile as a reliever at the next level, expect him to impress as a starter in 2014.
After leaving his alma mater Maine, where he played as a quarterback and served as an assistant coach for 17 years, to become the first Old Dominion football coach since 1941, Wilder had two years to recruit players and prepare the revived program for life at the Division I level. Heinicke and the Monarchs love to put the ball in the air, proven by the quarterback's ridiculous 5,076 total passing yards and 45 passing attempts per game last season. While Old Dominion's offense revolves around the passing game, it certainly isn't a one-dimensional attack. After conceding 420 yards per game and 30.5 points per game, Coach Wilder knows his defensive unit has some room for improvement. The Panthers need to remember what happened the last time they faced an FCS opponent, the disappointing defeat against Youngstown State in the 2012 season opener. But Heinicke did throw 14 interceptions last season, which shows that he can be mistake-prone. The Monarch defense struggled to hold opponents off the scoreboard for much of last season, and Pitt must take advantage of that fact when it has the football. A Virginia Tech grad, Beamer is the winningest active coach in the FBS with 258 career victories. From the sound of things, his coaches do as well - he was named the Hokies' most valuable player of spring practice as well as a permanent captain for the upcoming season. I can see how there could be some confusion lately seeing how we posted the photos of the Yankees Tailgating Grill a few days ago. Challenge accepted and complete, as the Gators took the 3-1 victory over the Seminoles before a season-high crowd of 5,657 (tied for the tenth-highest attendance in McKethan Stadium history).
Knief followed with a six-pitch at-bat, only to be called out on strikes, while John Nogowski ripped a grounder to third to end the inning.
They topped Pittsburgh to start the 2013 season, and played a series of Monday-night games against Miami and Clemson in the 2000s. Six years later, offensive guru Wilder is the man behind the most successful start-up FCS program in history, compiling an astounding 38-10 coaching record while leading the Monarchs to back-to-back FCS playoff berths and top 10 finishes in the polls. Three of Heinicke's top four targets return, so ODU should be primed for another explosive year in the offensive passing game. Monarch ball carriers posted 2,007 yards and 34 touchdowns on the ground last season, with the shifty Heinicke also a threat to scramble for yardage when passing plays break down.
However, the Monarchs did intercept 15 passes and recover eight fumbles in 2012, so the opportunistic group can cause problems for offenses that don't take care of the ball. The Monarchs will certainly be fired up and excited to face an FBS opponent at Heinz Field, and Pitt must match that enthusiasm and come ready to play from the opening kickoff. If Aaron Donald and the rest of the Pitt defensive line can put pressure on Heinicke and get the passing lanes of the 6-foot-1 signal caller, the Monarch passing attack could be in for a rough day.
Establishing the running game, dominating the line of scrimmage, sustaining long drives on offense and winning the time-of-possession battle will all be crucial for Coach Paul Chryst's team. The win was the Panthers' signature victory in 2012, as they snapped the 13th-ranked Hokies' 13 game road winning streak.
The Panthers won the turnover battle against the Hokies last season by a wide margin (VT-4, Pitt-1).
Now comes this week’s eye-candy and lo and behold it is a hot girl in a Yankees jersey.
With Wilder under contract through the 2021 season, Old Dominion selling out its renovated 20,000-plus seat stadium for almost every home game and the Monarchs set to begin Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) play in Conference USA in 2014, the program should continue its remarkably rapid growth over the next several years. However, if the Panthers can't get in the ODU backfield, the reigning FCS Player of the Year has the ability to likewise make it a long day for the Pitt secondary. A win at Heinz Field - his teams are 0-3 on the Panthers' home turf since its opening in 2001. Playing in all 13 games and starting six, Coleman rushed for 492 yards on 109 carries in 2012, scoring 2 touchdowns. Top returners include first-team All-ACC linebacker Jack Tyler (119 tackles in 2012) and second-team All-ACC selections CB Antone Exum (5 INT) and DE James Gayle (11 TFL, 5 sacks).
Aleshia Ocasio improved to 8-0 in 2015 with four scoreless innings of relief work against the Wolverines, while Lauren Haeger earned her tenth win of the season in the run-rule win over SJSU. After interning with Rivals for six months, he joined the Gator Country family as a recruiting analyst. 1) The Yankees are the defending World Series champions and they did open the baseball season this past Sunday.
Andrew enjoys spending his free time on the golf course and watching his beloved Atlanta Braves. Alongside Logan Thomas, Virginia Tech's leading rusher in 2012 (174 att., 524 yards, 9 TD), I would expect Coleman to be a big part of the Hokies' offense in 2013. So with that said, let’s all welcome in the opening of some baseball tailgating with some tailgating links.
