"We thought at the beginning that this was gonna be a respiratory disease that was going to have terrible implications, but we didn't realize the extent to which this is also a cardiovascular disease. The coronavirus can infect not only the lungs, but also the heart, the linings of the blood vessels, and potentially other organs throughout the body, as well. And so these papers that will be presented at scientific sessions reveal the extent to which COVID can be related to cardiac arrhythmias, like atrial fibrillation, and the way in which blood pressure medications may or may not actually interact with COVID-19."
