Was Gehn Released?

On July 21, 1998, Kenneth Seeger sent this message to the Riven Spoiler Lyst [http://www.rivenguild.com/rivenlyst]:

"When you use the trap book, you are trapped. When Gehn used the trap book, you were set free. At the end, Catherine took the trap book. When you signal Atrus, he appears, but with no D'ni Linking Book. Watch the ending movie closely. When Atrus and Catherine embrace away from you, she hands him the trap book. As they make their way towards you, Atrus checks the book and slips it in his pack. He then removes the same book, but we think it is a Linking Book to D'ni. In the ending in which you don't free Catherine (who wouldn't free Catherine?!), to link back to D'ni, he removes a reddish-brown book from his pack. And why would he need a pack anyway when he has a linking book to D'ni?

Did Atrus send Catherine into the Trap Book, then use it himself? If he did, then Gehn and Catherine would have been released. Assuming that their release was somehow delayed (since we didn't see it), and they were released once the Book fell into the Fissure... that would mean that Gehn is now here... on Earth... where the Fissure leads. A frightening prospect indeed!

In order to ease all our minds, and to clear Atrus' good name, I present the following screen shots from the Riven ending movies in question.

The Trap Book

This book is not in distpute. It is the Trap Book - its dark green cover looks almost black in this light.

Atrus' Linking Book

This book is also not in dispute. It is the Book Atus uses to link back to D'ni in the ending where Gehn is trapped, but Catherine has not been released.

The Book in Question

And finally, the Book in question.

Judge for Yourself...

Notice the lighter cover, and that the Linking Book is a bit thinner than the Trap Book.
