10-12-00 - "Murphy's Day"

For the last two months or so, the Cyan cam has been down, for the simple reason that the majority of my time has been spent testing realMYST.

Today we're supposed to be done. Really done. Not that phony "done" we've been trying to convince ourselves of since May. This was to be the real deal - to send our "latest and greatest" version to the publisher so they can start the manufacturing process. At the same time, we had a couple other project deadlines all converging on this week. Nearly everyone at Cyan had something or another due today or tomorrow.

Meanwhile, we've got another building going up, 'cause the one we've got is pretty much full, and we plan to nearly double in size kinda soonish (like as soon as that building is finished so we have a place to put 'em).

So, today, while the publisher is trying to download the "golden master" (release version) of realMYST, we're trying to get a realMYST preview finished up, and several other things, the Laws of Murphy decide it is the perfect time to demonstrate their authority, and the power at Cyan goes out. Two of the three power lines to the building have been dug up by a backhoe.

The backhoe in question... the hole is in the foreground

Another shot of the hole, a little later in the day.

Strangely enough,, not all of the power in the building went out. I have power to my lights, but the outlets are all dead. Myscha's office (right next to me) has outlet power, but no lights. Guess it's time to break out the extension cords...

This blue extention cord is giving Cho (our web server) and my Mac power from Myscha's office.
