Dear SMFM Members,
The SMFM Interim Board Meeting was a three-day meeting (7/23-7/25) in Boston where board members and committee chairs had the opportunity to review our progress and set new goals for the next year. As always, our Annual Meeting, to be held this year in Atlanta, is the biggest event for the Society and we anticipate another great conference. However, as you know, the Society continues to expand its many activities.

Protecting Our Infants Act of 2015
|
|
The SMFM-endorsed Protecting Our Infants Act of 2015 received bipartisan support in the Health Subcommittee of the House Energy & Commerce Committee on July 23, 2015. The bill, aimed at Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) would require the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to report on prenatal opioid abuse and neonatal abstinence syndrome. The bill would also require a review of the US Department of Health and Human Services' activities related to prenatal opioid use and neonatal abstinence syndrome and asks the CDC to provide technical assistance to states to improve neonatal abstinence syndrome surveillance and make surveillance data publicly available.

| The Pregnancy Foundation/AAOGF and the ABOG/AAOGF Scholar Retreat (7/23-25/2015) |
Each year the award recipients for the Pregnancy Foundation/AAOGF and the ABOG/AAOGF Scholar Awards get together for a retreat. The retreat provides an opportunity for the scholars to interact with program faculty and to network with their colleagues who have made similar career path choices. Each scholar provides an update on their work and additional presentations are made by local faculty.
The 2015 retreat took place on July 23rd - 25th and was hosted by Dr. Hilary Roeder (2013-2016 Pregnancy Foundation/AAOGF Scholar) and her mentor Dr. Thomas Moore at UCSD in San Diego, California.

As Maternal-Fetal Medicine physicians, we understand that, for patients, sharing stories and information about their current and past medical conditions can be both helpful and therapeutic. SMFM's website offers a list of patient support organizations that may be of interest to you or your patients. The list includes websites dedicated to support pregnant women with cancer, preeclampsia, or a pregnancy complicated by preterm birth or a fetal anomaly.
