I Dreamed More for Lockwood’s Dream Island

by Phoenix, HSM team writer

I recently purchased the Dream Island from Lockwood’s Figment line. Yes, I am a bit behind on this space. I was offline when it came out, and I did not get to the open house. But I had seen the video and adverts, so I thought I knew what I was purchasing in this incredible spacious seaside abode. I looked forward to finding and unlocking the wildlife. I was excited about the swimming aspect and the cave I had heard about. So imagine my let down when I had stumbled across all but three of the unlockable rewards within a few minutes of arriving in the space.

I was saddened by this. I don’t know if  it was just me, but I looked forward to days of discovery — well, at least two days. I would have enjoyed a timed reward feature, like the one in the Dream Yacht. I suppose it was my own fault for staying in the space all day the day I purchased it. I couldn’t help myself though — the space is so beautiful, so tranquil and so alluring. Hence my further disappointment when I found limitations to my explorations.

Picture 823Okay, maybe I am a bit greedy at this point; I had so much fun swimming in the pool and the ocean, that I wanted to swim in every part of ocean I could see. I could dream of so much more to do in this space — I wanted to swim under the decks with the dolphin and clown fish, and in the tidal pools. I wanted to pick up the star fish and collect the coral that I can see everywhere. I had even hoped to be able to swim under water in this space, and maybe discover a sunken ship out there — alas, that was not to be. Not this time…

I wanted to hold onto a dolphin’s back fin and be towed around in the ocean. Most of all, Lockwood, I wanted to know why there is a boat inside my waters that I can’t access? Why tease me with my own boat — surely it belongs to the owner of the island? It’s well within my property lines. I imagined sailing around my island on a mini tour to visit the other side. At the very least, I think it would have been great to board the boat, and even use it as an extra room of sorts. To my way of thinking, baked-in furniture wouldn’t have been a problem here. It could have helped out with the 100-item limit, and could have been used as an extra room. Yes, I dreamed a little bit more for this space, sight unseen.

Picture 821How would this space have looked at sunset, I wondered? Yes, I dreamed of a Dream Island with a diurnal control, with the sky all aglow and the tranquil ocean reflecting its colors…

Okay, enough dreaming already. I love the space, even with its unforeseen limitations. I love the reward items that I have unlocked in this space. I must admit I like finding unlockables a little more than the gifting machine included in some of the spaces.

And it was a real treat to find the cave. It is a wonderful little hideaway, with the rainbow being the thing that caught my attention. Nice touch, Lockwood! I might never have wandered in there, had it not been for that little gem of the rainbow. However, I had hoped for a little more of an adventure, finding and exploring the cave. Maybe not exactly like the cave of the Spelunker game, but something a little more explore-able. I even dreamed it lead me to the other side of the island.

The only real complaint I have, is that it took me so long to get this space, now there are a few others that could offer up the adventure I look for in a space like this one. The problem with this is, I don’t have enough hours in the day to spend in them all. Still, that’s a good problem to have, isn’t it?

I enjoyed reading your article and I appreciate your point of view, but it reminds me of a comment that I made previously. Everything, even the universe, is finite and developers have to stop somewhere.

Unless you’re in an interior space with no windows, there will be a view of somewhere else and you’ll want to go there too. Well, of course, it’s just a background picture, but if it wasn’t and you COULD go there, there would still be another background and you’d want to go there, too… ad infinitum.
