Meet the King – King Chile

by Burbie52, HSM team writer

He who stands quietly in a room full of trophies stands tall.

I have been friends with King Chile for over a year. We met through a mutual friend in Home and have remained casual acquaintances ever since. I have always known that he is a great gamer, and he is known for it by the social circle he frequents on Home. His game rating on the XMB is always rising and now stands at level twenty-three, having risen from twenty-one during the course of the PSN Outage.

King Chile is what many would consider a hardcore gamer; he has sixty-three platinums, two hundred forty-seven golds, eight hundred forty-seven silvers and an astounding three thousand two hundred and fifty two bronze trophies at present. In other words, he pwns you. As such, I decided to interview him about how he has accomplished this feat.

Burbie52: How long have you been a gamer Chile?

King Chile: I have been gaming for over eighteen years, since I got a Nintendo when I was five years old.

Burbie52: So that makes you about twenty-three?

King Chile: I turned twenty-four in December.

Burbie52: Have you always been interested in trophies?

King Chile: Sort of. I have always tried to find as much as I could in every game I have played. I find RPGs were always best for that.

Burbie52: Do you like a particular type of game genre best?

King Chile: In this generation of games I like third person action/adventure games best. But RPGs run a close second.

Burbie52: Do you have a favorite game of all time?

King Chile: HA HA! The dreaded question! As much as I have tried I can never narrow it down to just one. Uncharted 2 is my favorite PS3 game so far though.

Burbie52: You now own an amazing sixty-three platinums. How long has it taken you to accomplish this?

King Chile: I got my first one on August 8, 2008 for Uncharted after their trophy patch came out.

Burbie52: When did you decide to start going for all these platinum trophies?

King Chile: I started working on platinums right away, but I really don’t go out of my way to get them; like I don’t have Gamefly or anything. I just go for whatever I own or can borrow from friends.

Burbie52: I noticed that your statistics went from twenty-one to twenty-three during the outage and you had told me that you only had fifty-eight platinums before the outage happened.

King Chile: Well I finished off two I had been working on and also did Portal 2, Just Cause 2 and Enslaved during that time. I was just two or three trophies short on them when the network came back up and I finished them all this week. So I now have sixty-three.

Burbie52: How many hours in a week do you play games?

King Chile: Hmm, I’m not sure. I make room for at least three or four hours at the end of the day. But if I am free for the day, I just check out and spend most of a day on a game. It’s very random, unfortunately.

Burbie52: I have noticed that you don’t come into Home very often anymore, is there a reason for that?

King Chile: I tend to frequent Home during dry spells, when I don’t have a game to play. But I have managed to build up quite a backlog of games to play, so I don’t come on as much on my own. But if a friend asks me to come in I will stop what I am doing and come.

Burbie52: Do you see Home itself as a game or just a gaming platform?

King Chile: I guess I see it as a gaming platform, but I wouldn’t argue with anyone who said it isn’t a game.

Burbie52: Speaking of games, what do you think of the games that Home itself has to offer?

King Chile: They are fun. I haven’t played any of the recent ones obviously, but I am a sucker for mini games. I liked the Midway ones best so far; guess I haven’t been to a carnival in a while. Miz Fortune has it in for me though — the greedy gypsy keeps cheating me out of prizes.

Burbie52: So you haven’t been able to play the new one in the SodiumTwo personal space?

King Chile: Not yet, no.

Burbie52: Do you own much in Home?

King Chile: I usually buy the items of things I am interested in. For example I bought all of the Ghostbusters stuff as soon as it became available. I guess it depends on what is in my wallet when I pop on Home. I still don’t have the Monkey Island stuff, and it makes me sad.

I want to thank King Chile for his time and for letting us all see behind the scenes of what it takes to be what I consider to be a master of games. I have never met anyone who has this many platinum trophies before, and yet he is still a very humble young man. In fact when I asked him to do this interview, he said he was sure that there were others out there with more platinum trophies than he has, and while he’s right, I think that it is still a great accomplishment and one that deserves recognition.

Hail to the King, baby.

Level 23?!? WOW. It’s impressive that a singular person can get to that level. I think most of us could say we spend 3 or 4 hours a day on our hobbies so his time spent isn’t outrageous at all. Great interview Linda! It’s always a pleasure to learn about the gaming habits of others.

If you guys think this is impressive, the truth is I have a fiend whose level is 24 and has a little over 80 platinums!! his trophy count is currently 4068.. Truly mind boggling

Man, this is weird to read. A lot more entertaining than my forcefully redesigned apartment, that’s for sure. Glad I could help kick start the new segment and nothing but good wishes for the HSM. Maybe I’ll lurk a little more now that I’m not getting those error messages.
