True story as to how that picture came to be in this article… The Monday after you and I had our phone call about this article, I was sitting in front of my laptop, not at all thrilled about writing this, because I thought it was going to be tedious and it would end up with me more or less writing an endless string of expletive laced rants.

Then I got my dose of Monday morning randomness at the Chive, where about a dozen pictures in, I saw the “Meanwhile In Norway” picture. I have no idea why, but I just LOL’d -- hard. I knew I had to have this picture in this article, if only to tweak your nose.

The “Meanwhile in Norway” graphic cracks me up. I’ve actually gone swimming in the Hardangerfjord, and sweet baby Jesus, that’s *cold.* It’s a full-on OMGWTFBBQ experience.

Example;Especially since we just know what English speakers are going to assume “kont” means. But, somehow, “ik lach mijn billen af” doesn’t quite make it, either. That brings me to the question, though, to what extent do different languages develop their own internet slang, and to what extent do people regard the English slang as universal? What info I can find on the ‘net suggests that, with Dutch, it’s a bit of both, but I’ve encountered fairly few specifically Dutch expressions — the only one I remember offhand is PLORK — Prachtig Lichaam Ontzettende RotKop. hehe;)

For me as not being an American citizen, this article has much clarification. Many of these abbreviations are rarely Used by myself.simple because they are not in my system / I have not learned. Coincidentally, I recently have had whole discussion about it, it started with the sentence, Have you noticed LOL ~ That has gone from Meaning to laugh out loud ‘I can not think of anything else to say. “or LMAO, it just make no sense, after i write it translated Dutch ….
