Beaterator is a music mixer released in September 2009 by Rockstar Games for the PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3 (via the PlayStation Network), and iOS released in December 2009. Beaterator was developed by Rockstar Leeds. The game was co-produced by Timbaland.[3]
The game is based on an Adobe Flash music mixing tool released on the Internet in 2005 by Rockstar and contains original all-new loops and sounds produced by Timbaland for Beaterator. The game also allows the user to produce his or her own loops.
A teaser trailer before release confirmed the following game modes: Live play, Studio Session and Song Crafter.[4] On August 27 the official website for Beaterator received an overhaul, revealing that the game would have Social Club integration for sharing your music with the community. Also revealed was the first video in a series of videos focusing on Timbaland and others making beats with the game.[5]
Users could upload their songs to Rockstar Social Club and share them with friends and the public.
To celebrate the game's release, Rockstar Games held an event in PlayStation Home at the Listen@Home station in North America's Central Plaza on 16 October 2009. Attendees could play select user-uploaded Beaterator tracks during the event.[6]
On 10 June 2014, the GameSpy service was discontinued, taking with it the Beaterator Social Club features. [7]
Reception[edit]
Reception for the game has been mainly positive. The game has an 80/100 on Metacritic[8]
The Australian video game talk show Good Game 's two reviewers gave the game a 6/10 and 7/10.[9]
