History: John M. Crockett built this large farmhouse in 1858 on a 318 acre Donation Claim which he filed on March 6, 1866. After his death, his wife Ann remarried Dr. Joshua Highwarden. They resided here until they sold the house to Thomas W. Calhoun in February 1888. Calhoun remained until 1898 when the house was sold to Charles (Carl) Engle. Charles Engle built the gambrel-roofed barn adjacent to the house in 1909, as well as the milk barn, grainery and machine outbuildings. In 1916, Engle constructed the large stone gate posts using woven wire fencing. He also constructed the cement sewage trough running from the house into the field.
