History: Elisha Rockwell constructed this farmhouse in 1890, and it appears on the 1897 map of County Road from Chicago to Coupeville. He was a logger but more popularily known for his large “Rockwell Bean” crops. Ben Hancock, a local bachelor, owned the home for a time. He rented the large house and moved into a small adjacent building which was converted for residential use. This structure stands today and is used for storage. The house changed ownership frequently and passed in to the hands of Thomas Merryman a retired Fort Casey soldier.
