History: This log cabin was constructed in 1852 by Jacob Smith on his Donation Claim near Coveland, north of Penn Cove. In 1857, Captain James Henry Swift purchased Smith’s Donation Claim and the Swift family lived in the house for several years. The exterior had clapboard siding and the interior walls were papered with wallpaper from China. In the 1880’s, the farm and house were sold to Captain Brown. In 1928, Dr. George Swift purchased the old family house. Fred Krueger disassembled the structure, numbered each log, and reassembled it at its present site. The Clapboard siding was removed, so the original log construction became visible, and the 1-story addition was constructed. The hinges on the front door are from the old Forestry Building at the University of Washington.

Description: Log cabin. Log frame set on stone foundation; T-shape with 1-story gable roof addition forming base of “T” on south façade. Stone chimney tapering to the top on north façade.
