Cafe Hound: Coffee Recommender Project

Coffee Segmentation Results

Segmentation results identified six broad categories of coffee ordered from lightest and darkest roast (based on Agtron ratings). Agtron ratings are a numerical representation of the consistency of the roast color (lower numbers indicate a darker roast <45, higher numbers indicate a lighter roast 50+).  Keep in mind that more than the roast determines the flavor profile and overall body of the coffee, which is why some of these segments may appear similar.

Below is the Dark Chocolate Juicy Segment. It is medium-dark roasted (on average) and affordably priced for specialty coffee.

Many coffees in this group are actually espresso blends, which indicates that they are full-bodied enough to cut through any interference that milk and sugar may cause. This segment is heavy on the chocolate notes and finish, juicy and tart fruit flavors, sweet and smooth elements such as cocoa butter, dark chocolate, and rum. These coffees are great anyway you prefer, but they perform better than most others in drinks containing milk such as macchiato, cortado and cappuccino beverages.

"Evaluated as espresso. Delicate, exotic, profoundly floral. Star jasmine, tamarind, saffron, bittersweet orange blossom, dark chocolate in aroma and small cup. Sumptuous, levitating mouthfeel. Bittersweet, citrus-driven short finish; dark chocolate enveloped in jasmine in the resonant long, with waves of saffron notes best described as umami-floral. Maintains its nuance in three parts milk, where dark chocolate and saffron round and deepen."
