Cafe Hound: Coffee Recommender Project

Coffee Segmentation Results

Segmentation results identified six broad categories of coffee ordered from lightest and darkest roast (based on Agtron ratings). Agtron ratings are a numerical representation of the consistency of the roast color (lower numbers indicate a darker roast <45, higher numbers indicate a lighter roast 50+).  Keep in mind that more than the roast determines the flavor profile and overall body of the coffee, which is why some of these segments may appear similar.

Below is the Medium Fruity Mellow Segment. It is medium-dark roasted (on average) and moderately to high priced for specialty coffee.

This segment is overwhelmingly more fruit-forward than its peers, especially with berry fruits such as blackberry, strawberry and blueberry flavors. Coffees from this group are lush and fruity at first taste, and they finish intense and equally flavorful with medium to heavy body. Although I personally wouldn’t suggest it, these coffees perform well in drinks with milk such as cappuccino, latte, cortado, and macchiato beverages. They also ideal for French press, espresso or paper/metal drip brews. This is a fun segment.

Exemplar Reviews

"Lush, sweetly savory, deeply floral. Black currant, hops, coriander, kola syrup, violet in aroma and cup. Juicy, round acidity; full, syrupy mouthfeel. The flavor-saturated finish consolidates around fruit and floral tones in the short, modulating to crisp, resonant notes of hops and kola in the long."
