Cafe Hound: Coffee Recommender Project

Coffee Segmentation Results

Segmentation results identified six broad categories of coffee ordered from lightest and darkest roast (based on Agtron ratings). Agtron ratings are a numerical representation of the consistency of the roast color (lower numbers indicate a darker roast <45, higher numbers indicate a lighter roast 50+).  Keep in mind that more than the roast determines the flavor profile and overall body of the coffee, which is why some of these segments may appear similar.

Below is the Medium Balanced Bright Rich Segment. It is medium-light roasted (on average) and average priced for specialty coffee.

Little explaining needed for this segment; this is the perfect balanced coffee, the full experience of intense, lush, fruit and honey, and floral flavors – paired with “lyrical acidity”, plush syrupy mouthfeel and rich, flavor-saturated cocoa finish. Coffees in this group are perfect for any type of brew and who appreciate a coffee that is neither too light, and wispy, nor to heavy and chocolatey. It is hard to miss when selecting a coffee from this segment.

Exemplar Reviews

"Intensely sweet and savory, exotic. Passionfruit, frankincense, grapefruit zest, rose, roasted cacao nib in aroma and cup. Bright, lyrical acidity; plush, syrupy mouthfeel. The rich, long, cocoa-toned finish is flavor-saturated, all the notes from the cup persisting, passionfruit and grapefruit zest in particular."
