Great day out really enjoyed the roads and all the new techniques and tips I have picked up. My wife booked a day’s training with Andy for myself and my best mate in August as part of my mid-life celebrations.
I've done a lot of training courses over the years both for work and pleasure, but I must say none have felt quite as rewarding as a day out with Andy. I thought I knew it all even at 69 years of age, A day with Andy can only improve your riding skills making you a safer more confident rider. Having taken part in a few additional courses now I can say Andy is by far the best instructor you could ever want to teach you. I arrived for my ERS on an overcast day in June 2016 full of self doubt, and wondering if I would ever get the best out of my hobby.
So being a relatively newbie to the bike world I thought having 1 to 1 training session would help build confidence and give feedback as to what areas of my biking I need to improve. I decided to do the ERS training day with Andy after attending his free classroom based seminar and being very impressed with it.
I am a new rider who hasn't ridden for a couple of years and was very nervous about getting back on the bike for the summer. Andy took the time to understand what I wanted from the day and came up with a well planned and very enjoyable session. Andy had planned an excellent route to challenge the areas I had said I wanted to work on plus spectacular views.
From first contact Andy gets to know you and your requirements then meticulously plans your training day to suit.
My wife reminded me recently that she is still waiting for me to tile the kitchen, more than 20 years after she met me and found out that my dad was a tiler and that I had worked with him as a labourer. A full day's biking in the glorious Derbyshire Peaks, can only be bettered by having Andy along to advise and demonstrate skills to enhance your riding. I passed my bike test at the end of July 15 and have covered about 1200 miles, so I fall into the novice category. I did my ERS after looking into being a blood bike rider and being told I need to do at least an ERS.
Having done ERS training with Andy last year (that feedback is somewhere on here too) I was really motivated to do more training.
I did a 3 day course with Andy earlier this year just to consolidate some training I did a couple of years ago elsewhere. After progressing through ERS and IAM, I still felt some extra polishing was needed, so taking the RoSPA test seemed like the next logical step. After riding for 34 years with only a couple of minor spills I was unfortunate to experience a major accident earlier this year which landed me in hospital with 9 broken ribs. I spent a day with Andy and ended the day a better rider than when I started, and did it while having loads of fun!
I have ridden cruisers for some nine years before swapping onto a more modern concept Sports Tourer this year.
A really BIG thank you to Andy Stoll for making my RoSPA examination today turn out to be the result I wanted. Andy Stoll delivered a great all round day as part of the Enhanced Rider Scheme (ERS) Training Course.
After a visit to Matlock earlier this year I met Andy Stoll, simply because he had the same bike as me and we got talking. I spoke to Andy to explain that I am a born again biker, passing my test in 2000, but riding on various bikes since early eighties, just purchased a new bike and don't want to become a statistic. I just wanted to say a big thank you to Andy for what I can only describe as a fantastic day. Following a major incident last year, I was prompted to look for a way to regain my confidence on a bike. I've been on and off bikes for a good number of years and am old enough to have passed my test with no real training. There is only one person I trust with my training, and when I booked the ultimate test of advanced riding skills I knew that only Andy could give me an honest opinion of what I needed to do to achieve the result I required.
I booked 1:1 training with Andy to find out where I was going wrong, country lanes were my problem I wanted to be able to ride any roads safely and smoothly without harsh breaking after making errors. Been riding for the last 17 years, and having just bought a new bike I felt that a refresher would be wise. I was given this experience as a gift with a huge amount of knowledge about riding thrown in. A fantastic day with Andy, covering a lot of miles, in manageable chunks, with advice and feedback before, during and after each leg of the run. I have to say that I, like others here, was mildly sceptical that much could be done to improve my riding.
I have just completed my advanced rider training with Andy in preparation for the RoSPA test. On returning to biking after a 6 year layoff (the daily commute in the car was proving too much for my sanity!!!) I searched for quite some time to find a refresher course that I was happy to spend money on. First, in general, doing such a training is an absolute no-brainer: You learn so much, become a safer rider and all that for very little money.
Although I only had a couple of refresher lessons with Andy prior to renewing my RoSPA certificate, I found it to be a most enjoyable experience. The learning was both fun and rewarding, I have said learning rather than training because that is what I like about Andy's style. I regularly ride with my wife covering tens of thousands of miles between us, I therefore see advanced training as very important from a safety perspective and also to make progress where appropriate. After riding for 37 years, I thought I must be pretty good at it, after all, I had survived this long.
Andy and I went on a couple of brilliant days out round Shropshire and the Peak District; as a result of which I gained a RoSPA Gold badge (which was my goal after getting a Bronze elsewhere the year before). The site gives detailed information of the car’s MoT history such as the dates of all the previous tests, the MoT test number, the mileage when tested, and most importantly whether the car passed or not.
The DVSA is also developing another site that allows users to see further details of any registered car.

If you're looking at buying your next car, not only is this tool great for checking whether or not it has a valid MOT certificate, but it also tells you what's gone wrong with the car in the past and what may need to be repaired in future.

Note that you can only get test results as far back as 2005 and some MOT test results for recently transferred personalised registrations aren’t available. Did you know there is a maximum fee that MOT test stations can charge depending on the type of car? If it's not great news and your car fails its MOT, and it's going to be too expensive to repair, then you can always sell or scrap it with us! This is the only one that would cause me too much concern, it might be nothing but it might be one foot in the grave (doubtful though). Had many cars over my time and never had an MOT mention rust since owning cars from the late 90′s onwards. It is so bad because manufacturers had come to a point of excellent quality, knowing how to treat exposed metal to a very good degree, substituting mild steel where appropriate, then realising they could be reducing future profits. But, of course, you knew that since you check your tyres yourself weekly, along with fluid levels and lights… Right?
The MOT status and history checker that can be found here is fairly self explanatory, and can be used to check that an MOT certificate for a vehicle is genuine.  The date of the last test, the mileage on the vehicle at the time of the test, and the expiry date of the test are all provided, allowing you to confirm that the MOT certificate presented by the seller is above board.
You can also check the details of every MOT test carried out on the vehicle since 2005 (when the system was computerised).  Full test details can sometimes uncover mechanical issues as they developed over time, whlle checking the mileage at each MOT can help you make sure that the vehicle has not been clocked. A vehicle history check also identifies cars that have been reported as stolen ? which remain the legal property of the original owner ? as well as those that have been insurance write offs, which may therefore be unsafe to drive. The documents that accompany of used car that’s for sale are important to tell if the car you’re looking at is owned by the seller, how well it’s been looked after and also it’s road worthiness. The V5C registration document shows who the registered keeper of the vehicle is (not necessarily the legal owner) and also records the last two keepers. Ensure that the form is an original with an official watermark with no over-writing or attempts to modify its details, e.g.
The V5C has a record of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and this should match the car including a metal plate in the engine bay, stamped into the vehicles chassis under a small carpet flat inside the car and on newer vehicles, etched into the bottom of the windscreen. The V5C shows the details of previous keepers and as the previous keepers can be a useful source of information a vehicle, it might be worth getting in touch to ask some questions, e.g. In order to by road tax for a car, you’ll need the V5C document so make sure it’s available when you by the car and walk away if the seller can’t produce it. Cars that are three years old or more require an MOT certificate based on a yearly inspection and there should be a continuous run of valid certificates. With concurrent MOT certifications, the recorded mileage should increase steadily with age and be consistent with the service record.
The majority of vehicles will require some attention from a mechanic at a garage during their lifetime so are likely to have a collection of receipts and invoices from that work, including yearly servicing and MOT tests. Looking through the servicing history, look for any recurring problems that might indicate faults that keep occurring and that might not have been fixed. Make sure there is a handbook available for the car, as these can be expensive to replace if it’s not available. If a vehicle seems like a real bargain, or has a very low mileage for its age then there may be a problem with the car or its history. To help you avoid making a potentially expensive mistake when you buy a used car, get an HPI check to make sure that it’s not got any outstanding finance or hire purchase agreements in place. Make sure to get a receipt showing the vehicle details, price, terms of sale and the seller’s details.
If you don’t check the documentation it could be a very expensive long term purchase. It was not too basic, indeed some of it was quite advanced, and I could see how Andy evolved the day as he assessed my riding ability. From the start Andy will accommodate and suite the course to what you need to focus on and develop.
The route was spectacular and well planned; the feedback and explanation of things to work on was clear and the whole day was structured to ensure that I got maximum benefit. I was looking for an unbiased view of my riding and areas I should improve on and came across DART through facebook and the internet.
Had lots of experience but never any formal training so god knows what awful habits I had developed. Commuting by bike, my requirements were slightly bespoke as I don't ride for pleasure or with groups.

However I never felt that I was getting the best out of the new bike, so this is where Andy comes in.
After over 40 years of riding motorcycles, I felt I could still improve my riding skills, having read various bike related training articles. The attention that is put in to planning the advanced rider day from Andy is second to none. Found Andy Stoll’s details quite randomly on Facebook, and in hindsight he was a really great find. Andy allowed me to ride at speed where appropriate and he critiqued my riding style and ability using helmet radio, which was great real time feedback. The old adage is you only get what you pay for and I definitely received excellent value for my money. Andy commented and praised me on everything that I was doing right which boosted my confidence no end.
I am both IAM and RoSPA qualified and generally thought I knew everything or had heard everything before. The second ‘Beta’ website allows users to see when the vehicle was first registered; it’s CO2 emissions, tax band and when their next tax payment is due. It will tell you everything from when its MOT certificate expires to the engine size, colour and how much CO2 it emits.

There’s a choice to drop your car off locally or car collection and all of the legal paperwork is sorted for you. It’s vital to check this over before you buy and to ensure that the seller is the keeper and therefore legally entitled to sell it, you can ask for a second form of identification to check, e.g. You can request a replacement from the DVLA but request that the seller does this and produces an original document before paying out any money. Very informative great feedback it really improved my riding ability and my awareness on the road. I felt safe through the knowledge and insight Andy gave me and I have something that I will now use and stay with me. Sixty thousand miles later, I still felt hesitant and apprehensive when approaching bends, particularly blind ones. I can understand why some testers would advise on them, but for the most part they may look bad but are still solid.
One useful tip is to take a V5C from another vehicle if you have access to one and compare them to make sure the fonts and alignment are all correct to reduce the risk of receiving a forgery.
Vehicles being sold away from the keepers registered address should result in more questions being asked and avoid buying from pub car parks without very good justification.
There may be some slight variation on the colour which can depend on the viewpoint of the manufacturer or a previous owner – but it’s important to make sure that all of the other details are as they should be. One other quick check is to see whether the garages used are in the general area of the registered address at that time. You’ll have the chance to look through a vast history (depending on the age of the car) of MOT’s including the “Advisory Items” and the “Failure Items.”The purpose of carrying out this check is so you can see what the car has failed on.
And bodywork experts can certainly work wonders with smashed up modern vehicles, let alone toughing up a sill where the new meets old metal.
Doing the job properly involves cutting all the affected metal away, welding new in, then properly protecting BOTH sides of the repair. Anyway, the first MOT was fine but the second MOT failed due to rust near suspension and costed me 350 quid to fix. If they aren’t the registered keeper, ask why they’re selling the vehicle on behalf of someone else. This will allow you to check whether the MOTs you have are valid and also identify if there have been any gaps in the cars history. It there are gaps, ask the seller if they know why these might have occurred, as they can be indicative of MOT failures or the car having been taken off the road for a period.
Or it might be the first signs of terminal rot coming through from the inside of various box sections. Therefore, the car could still be classed as roadworthy without the advised parts actually being replaced.What this means for you is possible expense, not too far down the road.
