Tips on Finding the Right Photographer to Create Exceptional Memories

When it comes to your wedding you want everything to go exactly as planned and you want your photographer to capture every moment of your special day.  For that to happen you need to find the right photographer.  Here are some tips on finding the right photographer to create exceptional memories of your wedding day.

  1. Your photographer should have a studio

Even if that studio is in their home your photographer needs to have a physical location where you can find and meet with them.  Photographers with a studio or office indicate a level of trust within the community.

  1. You need rapport with your photographer

The photographer is one of the few vendors that you’re going to be spending the entire day with.  You don’t need any additional stress on your wedding day or to have to worry about whether the pictures are being taken or not.  Having a photographer that you like and trust is crucial to making the day go smoothly.  Ask them about what they will do if things go sideways.  Your photographer should be flexible and able to handle the worst case scenario with grace.

  1. They need to be good at their craft

This should go without saying but you need a photographer who can take good pictures. Don’t hire your best friend’s nephew or hire the cheapest photographer that you can find.  They should take the time to get to know you and ask about what kind of photos you want and offer suggestions to make your wedding day go smoothly.

  1. Don’t make your choice based on price

The old adage “you get what you pay for” does have some truth to it.  The cheapest photographer is rarely your best option and the most expensive is not necessarily the best option either.  Price does correlate to quality but if you have a budget you should still be able to find a quality photographer that will produce great pictures.

  1. A back-up plan is a must

There are a couple of facets to this, they should have back up equipment and a plan in case the weather doesn’t cooperate or their equipment fails.  There should be extra memory cards and cameras in case something goes wrong.  There should also be a backup photographer in the event that they get sick or injured before your wedding.  A good photographer will have an assistant to help them out throughout the day.

Wedding photography has a variety of different styles, gone are the days of traditional wedding photos.  Always take a look through a photographer’s portfolio to see if their style matches with what you want.  Don’t settle for less than you deserve, no matter how much you may like your photographer.
