Like Learning to Play on a Grand PianoWhile the YPG-535 has a ton of fantastic instrument sounds, the centerpiece of this and all Yamaha keyboards is the lush grand piano.
Six-Track Recorder: Compose Your Own MusicThe ability to sight-read notation will have you understanding music in a different way, so it'll only be a matter of time before you'll want to start writing your own. Optional Survival Kit ContentsIncludes a Yamaha Watch & Learn DVD, 3-Year Extended Warranty, stereo headphones, Grand Piano felt key cover, and Hundreds of dollars of Rebate Coupons. I've had two keyboards before this one, and I must admit that this is definitely the best yet. I had no need for support, but Yamaha sent a DVD detailing all of the aspects of the keyboard anyway! The knobs and faders would be handy for quickly designing synth sounds and then displayed on a synth sub-window on the touchscreen when in sound design mode which could be saved as different versions of sound files for later recall.
The modularity of its design makes it easy to upgrade without having to buy a completely new board. On your Tyros2 have you opened it up to see if its power supply module is still operational?
My best guess is that the embedded pc is still working but Yamahas dedicated board is somehow faulty. If you do decide to open it up, try disconnecting and reconnecting internal connectors a few times and any other connecting device.
If this would be the case I had to assume the tech service I brought my Ty2 to has totally cheated me. To do the chip exchange that I was told has been tried I assume the total boards had to be removed and reinstalled - so I guess connectors had to be unplugged and plugged back in again. Also I am not a technical nut I have no clue how to disassemble a Tyros proper and without unintentionally damaging anything.
A good service technician will realize that a lot of his company's reputation rests in his hands.
I suppose you have already tried re-loading the Tyros2 operating system to overwrite a glitch that may be in the currently residing system. My Tyros2 operating system is the same that it came with and it works ok so I will leave well enough alone. When you open it up - remember to write down on a paper where everything goes or take a series of digital photos so you can get it all back together again with the screws and all back into the same places they came out of. I often use a piece of cardboard to screw the unmounted screws taken away in it so I can keep placement info and write notes on it. With 533 comments (as of writing of this post), my article comparing the Casio & Yamaha keyboards is the most popular article on the blog. Here is a tabular comparison of the keyboards illustrating the similarities and differences in the technical details of the keyboards. Lastly, have you tried out the Casio Lighted keyboard ones that are available outside of India. The CTK-7000 is a technically superior keyboard, however the Yamaha PSR I-425 is a better learners and live performers keyboard.
I have read your comparison of Casio CTK 5000 and Yamaha PSR i425 and must say that in depth comparison is appreciable. Keeping my budget constraints, can u suggest me which is best for me as an hobbyist, to purchase a used keyboard – either Yamaha PSR 1500 or Yamaha PSR i425 or Casio CTK 7000 ?
That said, the PSR 1500 is also likely to be quite old and hence I would like you to check it thoroughly (check the keys, buttons, sliders, knobs and wheels for proper functioning) before you buy it. I am assuming that you intend to use the keyboard to either provide backing rhythm + chord or even entire sequences so that you can play along.
The Yamaha E333 is a keyboard even more basic than the CTK-4200 but it does enjoy Yamaha’s excellent rhythms and offers marginally more real-time control of rhythm+chord start stop.
I am looking forward to buy a keyboard for my 7yr old daughter who will be starting her keyboard classes from June.
The 49-key keyboard will allow her 2-hand playing practice and the light-weight machine will mean that you will not always have to carry it for her. Happen to come across your comparison chart during my short research on finding out an entry level keyboard.
The keyboard does support multi-track composition on the keyboard itself, but if you connect it to the computer, you will find it easier to edit the music on the computer.

I am novice in the music field, iam planning to take admission for my daughter(6 years old) as well as for my wife who knows music but not keyboard, but she knows harmonium very well. Yamaha have announced a special edition of the Tyros4, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Yamaha Tyros keyboard range. Available in black, the Tyros4 also comes with black TRS-MS04 speakers, Flashboard FL1024M expansion memory module including the Premium Pack “Vintage Keyboard” and a certificate of authenticity. Ever since he experienced the first controllable pixel movement on the television screen, he has been entranced by the possibilities and rewarding entertainment value generated from these metal and plastic boxes of delight. I have the Psr S910 it may be half the cost but the sounds are amazing. They of course eminate from the Tyros series of instruments. My Revolution’s 25th Anniversary Box Set Unboxing video – certainly a lot of content here!
PSR-I425 has 514 Voices and 162 Styles, including 10 Indian Voices and 12 Indian Styles, and is loaded with new features such as sound control knobs that give the user real time control effects, filters, envelope generator and tempo.
Two assignable knobs on the panel give you flexible, powerful real-time control of filter (Voice or Style), effect settings, sound envelope (Attack and Release) and style tempo. Digital Music Notebook (available as a free download) is a major new multimedia platform for music learning and performance.
From there, you can easily layer sounds, split the keyboard, jam along with built-in Styles, see the chords and notes you're playing on-screen, follow Yamaha's built-in lessons, and even record yourself with the 6-track sequencer. As the maker of some of the world's finest acoustic grand and baby grand pianos, Yamaha creates digital instruments that stand above the competition.
Choose one of the YPG-535's 30 internal songs (another 70 are included on CD-ROM) and the notes are presented on a keyboard and music staff right in front of you.
For the budding Bachs, Beethovens, or Sufjans out there, the YPG-535 has a six-track sequencer built right in.
The inviting feel, the ease of use, and the beautiful grand piano sounds will make learning a joy, while the integrated recorder will have you well on your way to becoming the next world-famous composer.
The YPG-535 offers a graded soft touch action that everyone from the beginner to the professional will love.
The only thing that makes it better is the "Pay as you play plan", offered only by zZounds! Although I knew the basic principles of User Song recording before, I'm sure with a little time in the manual, one could easily learn how to successfully use the instrument. When this error evolved I got something like a blue screen with a cryptic error message before it fully boots. I didn't ask for a refurbished main board but I think the guy would had mentioned that option if possible as he well understood that I was not willing to pay such a lot. While the article does discuss the keyboards, technical details are not available in the article.
However if you are looking for good customization of rhythms, measures and tones, you should consider the CTK-7000. Don’t bother with the CTK-810IN (quite dated now), CTK-6000 (less features than CTK-5000) and CTK-42000 (at the lower end of your budget).
However, the Yamaha PSR-I425 is compatible with USB Pendrives and can Load+Save your compositions and keyboard settings into it.
Both Yamaha and Casio keyboards multiple types of auto-harmonize (including 2 octave function). Rajib, after having gone through your blogs, I was so happy that you have gone very deep into the subject and obviously your ideas about these musical instruments have simply started multiplying like anything as it has reflected in all of your blogs. The keyboard was released in 2004 as an Arranger keyboard and has terrific real-time control of keyboard features for stage performance. Connect the keyboard to computer using USB and use a MIDI recording software (like Fruity Loops) to record the MIDI performance data.
Between the Casio and Yamaha keyboards, the single biggest difference is the realtime performance control and the Yamaha excels in that.
In the last ten years, Tyros has inspired many players and found its way not only into living rooms, but also onto stages and into studios. Writing hundreds of articles including commentary and reviews on various gaming platforms, while also interviewing well known industry figures for popular online publications.
It provides 50 different Arpeggio types that automatically generate useful patterns and phrases that change depending on the notes and chords you play. One dedicated button brings up a great sounding piano, stunningly rich and authentic in its sound as well as setting up the keyboard to play as a piano. Connections and setup are exceptionally easy, and you can play back your computer recorded parts with different instrument sounds - all from a single instrument. The built-in tone generator handles virtually any MIDI song file--from commercially available music data to songs created on computer or other MIDI instruments.
The Graded Soft Touch keyboard is gently semi-weighted and is easy for beginners to play -- just choose one of three settings for touch-sensitivity.
The stereo-sampled grand piano is lifelike and rich, and it's reproduced beautifully on the YPG-535's built-in stereo two-way speaker system.
Record a chord progression, then layer melody, countermelody, harmony, or whatever you like on top.
Music lessons and a fine instrument are two of the best investments you'll ever make, and both can be found in one keyboard: the Yamaha YPG-535.

I still haven't been able to download music from the net due to the fact that you have to pay for it (of course). It's quite a large board with 88 keys and due to that, I have banged it on walls and door frames lugging it around, but it just keeps on trucking. If you've been playing for a while and are looking to step up your game a bit, but you don't have the type of budget that allows you to buy a $1500 keyboard, then this is definitely for you. Yes, repair is possible - but I can't afford the price for this mainboard exchange - very simple.
It is more expensive but a very capable keyboard and will serve the needs of a musician like you. Attracted by the additional Indian sounds and few other features, ended up ordering a PSR-i425. The advantage of this approach is that your computer receives the notes that you play, rather than the sound. The advantage of this approach is that you can take advantage of the wonderful sounds of the keyboard and record the styles, variations etc.
Yamaha would like to express its gratitude to fans and customers with this Special Edition in a stylish black finish. The panel settings will automatically be adjusted for the ideal combination of sounds and style!
All you have to do is play on the keyboard--alternately on the left- and right-hand ranges of the keyboard, for example--and you'll sound like a pro as long as you play in time with the music. Naturally, it plays back conventional GM song data, but it also is compatible with the enhanced XGlite format, ensuring high sound quality. To add to the authentic piano experience, the YPG's 88-key Graded Soft Touch keyboard recreates the action of real piano keys in a lightweight, portable package.
These three modes follow a natural progression, each building on an ability mastered in the previous mode, and each lesson has seven levels of increasing difficulty to push those abilities even further.
Experiment with combining different instruments in one song -- the YPG-535 has 500 beautiful sounds to select from, including organs, woodwinds, strings and even drums and guitars. For the beginner, the built-in interactive lessons provide a user definable tempo that allow for learning at your pace. Though there are nearly Five hundred other great voices, personally I am in love with the Sweet! Please check the USB specifications carefully as most of the older machines only support devices of 2GB max. You can also download the manual (in PDF format) from the manufacturer’s website and look up the appropriate section in the manual. One of my key objective is to play some tunes and export it to PC and mix it using an editing suite like Fruity Loops or Acid Pro.
You can modify these notes to your hearts content and then use the Yamaha as the MIDI Output device (playback on keyboard) or use Fruity Loops Soft-Synth engine to playback the music using sounds that are not present on the Yamaha.
Use the Pitch Bend wheel, and hear these Voices--especially the Sax and Trumpet--truly come alive!
Furthermore, this instrument allows Music Database files transferred from a computer or stored on a USB flash memory device.
Plug a Yamaha FC4 sustain pedal in for dynamic damper effects, and you've got complete and authentic control over your music.
Save your favorite work by uploading to your computer, or use the YPG-535's USB storage device port to connect an external hard disk or thumb drive. Wish it had more tracks, and the styles sound kind of outdated (which is to be expected when trying to define a genre in one pattern), but it makes up for those with the number of instruments, sound quality, and sheer beauty. Tyros4 10th Anniversary Special Edition — this is our way of saying “Thank you” for ten years of loyalty. There's even a chord dictionary for familiarizing yourself with common chordal voicings and intervals, with each chord being displayed in name and as notes on the LCD musical staff.
I have shopped around for about 8 months for a keyboard that would not break my bank account, I finally found it at zZounds.
It has instruments that I had never heard of, never thought existed, and never thought that anyone would actually be able to play. I would suggest buying a USB Flash Drive for it if you intend to record on the User Song feature.
Though each song has 5 tracks (and an accompaniment track which is virtually useless because the styles and easy song arranger sound so generic), With only 5 songs, space fills up quickly for the creative soul.
The Effect Banks can be invaluable if you are playing a song with multiple instruments involved. The only thing I really wish that it could do would be to change time signatures in a recording without having to go to another track. The hammerlock keys provide a good transition for anyone preparing to move from the traditional button-push keyboard to the full on Grand Piano.
