Casio announced the new TRYX digital camera with a variable frame design that can capture images from any angle. In an industry where it is routine for model upgrades to be churned out every year, you have to give credit to Casio for coming out with something new and refreshing.Casio says its Exilim EX-FR10 is the world's first wireless detachable digital camera.
It consists of a camera module and a wireless controller, which are connected via Bluetooth. The wireless controller has a 2-inch touchscreen display which works as a viewfinder. Casio Exilim EX-ZR200 review : The 16 megapixel Casio EX-ZR200, an advanced digital compact camera, is available since two months.
The Casio Exilim EX-ZR200 is a stylish camera, available in four different colors: white, black, red and blue.
The predecessor EX-Z77 first introduced the "YouTube-mode" to Casio Zoom cameras and with that a switch to the H.264 video compression standard that reduces MPEG-4 file size more without any perceptible image degradation to the eye. Like the rest of the newly introduced Exilims, the EX-Z80 has "Auto Shutter" functions where the camera helps taking the best possible picture. The TRYX features a swiveling body and a 360 degrees rotating frame that can act as a tripod or can be hung from a hook or doorknob, a 3-inch LCD touch screen that can flip out and rotate 270 degrees, a 12.1-megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor, a 21mm ultra-wide-angle lens, 1080 Full HD video recording, High Dynamic Range imaging witih HDR-ART technology, High-Speed SR Zoom, slow?motion video, Slide Panorama, and a self-timer that uses a built-in motion sensor.
So, you can position the camera module in one spot and take photos using the wireless controller from another.I can see why Casio called the FR10 the "freestyle" camera. Thanks to the 12.5x optical zoom with mechanical image stabilizer, you can easily zoom in on any subject. For several years now, Casio digital cameras have been stylish and slender with just some minor tweaking and variations in design. Measuring 2.6 inches diagnonally, the wide-format LCD is large enough, but it has only 115k pixel resolution.
This means you can record longer videos while you still essentially get MPEG-4 video quality.
It is simply settings that follow YouTube recommendations for file size, running time, screen resolution, video compression and file format.
The camera uses advanced recognition algorithms to identify and properly expose up to ten faces in a picture.
This combination makes the Casio EX-ZR200 an extremely fast camera, with a start-up time of less than one second. The EX-ZR200 has a new sensor with an increased resolution of 12.1 megapixels to 16 megapixels.
The Multi Frame SR Zoom function also makes it possible to extend the 12.5x zoom to a 25x zoom, with near optical zoom quality. Whether you shoot playing children or a running dog, with the Casio EX-ZR200 you can easily take sharp action photos. As one of three new members of Casio's "Zoom" family, the EX-Z80 replaces the 7.2 megapixel Exilim EX-Z77 which we reviewed last summer (see review of the Casio Exilim EX-Z77). The back and front are color -- six are available: pale pink, vivid pink, green, blue, silver and the black shown above -- separated by a silver band that goes all the way around the camera. That's not terrible, but the display isn't nearly as sharp as that of, say, the new EX-S10 which has twice as many pixels. For the audio accompanying the video, Casio is now using the AAC audio codec used in iPods.

You can then connect the camera to the PC and use the Casio Uploader software to easily upload the movies to YouTube.
When you press the shutter, the camera adds the five seconds before you pressded it to your video. The camera will then wait until there is no more camera shake or the subject has stopped moving before it takes the picture. Both modules are made of plastic, but their matte textured surfaces feel rugged and durable. The FR10 is dust-proof and should withstand being dropped from a height of 2m. Focusing also takes less time than usual, as the high-speed autofocus system only needs 0,13 second to find a focal point. There are also some new technologies integrated in the EX-ZR200, such as Quick Response for a short start-up time and Burst-mode, which blurs the background. The Burst Shooting mode is a valuable addition to the Casio EX-ZR200, as this function allows you to blur the background.
The Casio EX-ZR200 is full of different kinds of High Speed possibilities, for fast action photos and full HD videos, and there are 35 Best Shot scene modes available. In its press release, Casio says that the new models, "while naturally offering significant enhancements in function and performance, focus on style with a new body shape that keeps height to a minimum and exudes a sense of premium design quality. There's not that much you can do when you have an inherently attractive and functional design that works and a LCD display that takes up much of the backside of the camera. With a thickness of three quarters of an inch it's also a bit thinner (though nowhere near as thin as Casio's "Card" cameras) and its overall volume is down by 22% compared to the 7.2 megapixel EX-Z77. However, it is only splash-proof, that is, it is built to withstand being underwater to a depth of 1m for 30min. We brought the Casio Exilim EX-ZR200 camera for a test in practice, you can read about our experience in the following Casio review. Normally this is only possible by selecting a large f-stop, in order to create a greater depth of field.
The Casio Exilim EX-ZR200 has a new Premium Auto Pro function, which was previously the Premium Auto function.
Up to ISO 800 can be used without a problem, from ISO 1600 noise starts to become very visible. I personally would not use the term ‘top model’, as I would not recommend it to advanced photographers.
The zoom rocker has been replaced by a slender zoom ring around the fairly large shutter on top of the camera. If you follow a car racing by with the camera, the camera will pick try to shoot the best possible picture without blur.
We miss a higher resolution display and the always useful auto focus illuminator, but other than that, the EX-Z80, available in six colors, is a very attractive product. With such limited water-resistance, this is definitely not your GoPro-kind of action camera. Both the camera module and the wireless controller have their own power, shutter release and video-recording buttons, as well as micro-USB port for charging. Thanks to the burst-mode in the Casio Exilim EX-ZR200, you no longer need any knowledge of the f-stop in order to achieve a well-lit, depth of field photo.
In this mode, the camera automatically selects the optimal settings, according to the situation.

However, if you are an ambitious photographer that likes to take creative shots at an incredible speed, then the Casio EX-ZR200 will certainly not disappoint.
The round 4-way navigation ring with a large "set" button in the center is unchanged, the red and green record and playback buttons, and the "Menu" and "Best Shot" buttons on the bottom are larger. YouTube initially ran all videos in Flash, but is switching to H.264 video, thus being inherently more compatible with the file format this Casio camera produces.
However, only the camera module has the microSD card slot for storing pictures and videos. The FR10's camera module is almost circular in shape, except for the bottom part, which is hinged. Strangely enough, the new EX-ZR200 is not as fast; this camera is capable of shooting 30 images per second in the Continuous Shooting mode, while the EX-ZR100 could process 40 shots per second. The maximum video resolution has been increased to a wide-format 848 x 480 pixels, perfect for playback on 16:9 aspect ratio wide-format TVs. The hinge, which allows you to flip the camera 180 degrees, fits into a slot on top of the wireless controller.A click tells you the camera module is securely attached.
Thanks to the enormous speed, it is a pleasure to photograph with the Casio Exilim EX-ZR200.
I would have thought it more logical to omit the need for such a connection when the two parts are physically connected. This would save on battery power.Casio says the two modules need to be within 5m of each other for the Bluetooth connection to work. However, I had no problems shooting from distances up to 8m.For a camera which comes in two parts, it operates quite fast. Shutdown takes about 2sec.The touchscreen display of the wireless controller is quite responsive.
You can tap to take a photo instead of using the physical buttons. The FR10 has only a programme-auto mode, but you can choose picture effects, such as toy, sepia and monochrome.
While you can change white balance and exposure compensation, you cannot change the ISO settings. In auto-interval mode, the camera shoots pictures or 5sec videos at regular intervals of 5sec, 15sec or 2min.
This works great with the highlight photo collage feature, which automatically chooses several pictures and videos and turns them into a slideshow.
There is a 1sec lag before a picture is taken. For the value-conscious, the FR10 comes with many accessories. These include a 360-degree rotating clamp, a carabiner, an adjustable elastic wrist strap, a lanyard, a lens hood, a multi-purpose nut and a tripod adaptor. All the accessories work with both the camera module and the wireless controller. I liked using the wrist strap to carry the wireless controller. The quality of the images and full-high-definition videos taken by the FR10 left much to be desired.
The videos were quite jerky and not crisp enough.Battery life was average - at 255 still images on a full charge - for a compact camera. The bigger irritant is that you need to charge the camera module and wireless controller separately. The Casio Exilim EX-FR10 is a fun and convenient lifestyle camera which you can use for creative shots.
